AFTERNOON AT THE GATE; SPRING AT THE GATE

I'm not sure about this photo's cropping. I like that "framing" by the dark trees, yet, is it too intense? (Not to mention those bells are uncomfortably close to dead center.) So, as I've done before, I'm posting Afternoon at the Gate (above) anyway to see if that will make how I feel clearer. And below is another much fussed with version Spring at the Gate. I like the colors and textures. But I'm still concerned about that "framing." Although I think the decreased contrast with the sky has softened it, it may also have made it less interesting and possibly puzzling as a "frame":

I have two other versions in different color families of this photo but have the same questions about them, as well. Actually, as I looked at both of these in "preview" just now before posting to the 'net I think the problem for me is with the branch in the upper right. It's a bit distracting. So I just did a quick re-crop, but then the other bushy tree areas make only a sort of messy sense. It's that tree branch that organizes the entire "frame" for the eye. Ah well, live and learn! (And take and edit pix, "successful" and otherwise.)

NOTE: In most browsers you can click on a photo to view a larger version. There are many more photos posted here than show at any given time in this left-hand column. See the Archives listing (below Previous Posts) in the right hand column. And here’s the link if you wish to read an Introduction, Background, & Technical Aspects post about this blog.
