"Her Offerings" (my photo & photomorph exhibit/sale of 1-17-16)

This is how I displayed almost 400 of my pix yesterday in our retirement community's common room. (There are regular exhibits here on Sundays of residents' arts & crafts.) There are five binders on that table, the smallest actually didn't have any pix in it. Just samples of my drawings, flyer designs, collages, etc., some with my poems on them. And one other book had photos but each was accompanied by a poem (prints of what I post every day to my dreams & poetry blog). The other three biggest binders, were nothing but pix. I usually like 4X6 prints or at most 5X7, but have recently been trying larger sizes. Some of those are on the wall. (I did move that walker with my bamboo/flute cane and other stuff more to the side before the "show" actually started.)

I find an exhibit an exhausting undertaking. And though my goal has not ever been to make money (more than covering expenses), but to share at least a tiny portion of the thousands of pix I've taken over the years, I've usually been rather let down on both fronts. However, this time not only did folk really seem to enjoy browsing through five full binders, but I made a bit of money beyond the expenses. Yes, most folk went through each binder, page by page. I was in hog heaven. And one fellow resident who studied at the Brooks Institute for Photography, sat across that table from me and "talked turkey" with me for some time. (I rarely get to chat about photography.)

There were also several conversations about art of all kinds. One about what it means to stand firm on one's own vision. One woman commenting that aging has helped her with that, that it doesn't matter as much anymore what others may think. I certainly hope to get to that place myself someday! Though I have always stood rather firmly on the bedrock of my own vision, it has often caused me a lot of discomfort (to put it mildly) to have others judge it wrong or ignorant. (When I was young it even contributed to a lengthy bout of writers block.)

But I've wandered from the point, it was a wonderful experience. And given how I felt after my previous handful of exhibits here, that's saying a great deal. Now I have to print the pix that were ordered so I'd better end this post here.

NOTE: In most browsers you can click on a photo to view a larger version. There are many more photos posted here than show at any given time in this left-hand column. See the Archives listing (below “Previous Posts”) in the right hand column. And here’s the link if you wish to read an Introduction, Background, & Technical Aspects post about this blog.
