THE GROWING EDGE


Hm, what can I say about "The Growing Edge"? When I snapped this side view of curving cactus leaves I knew I was going to have fun later cropping and coloring. It also proved to be one of those rare pictures that offers several different ways of cropping that I like. So I copied both the original and an additional (yet to be completed) cropped version into my Other Photos album to fool around with at some future date.

OK, I'll share the rough original that's enticing me with some of those other overlapping curved shapes in the top half or so. By the way, more and more I find myself taking photos that I do not bother to frame carefully with an eye to composition. But just make sure I've captured an area I know I will want to abstract or highlight in some way. Maybe I can think of this sort of uncomposed/unframed original shot as being like the sketch underlying a later drawing or painting:
