IN THE VAMPIRE'S GARDEN, IN THE CAVE OF ICE, and THE PROMISE
"In the Vampire's Garden" reflects my on-going experience these days. A sort of painful romance with the dark side of things that doesn't seem to promise any ending. In a more upbeat vein, it's an echo of the nice chilly fall weather we're having here in California. Lots of folk complain about that, but having lived in New York city all my life until barely 4 years ago, I enjoy it when the weather here departs from its usual balmly norm.
The above photo has clearly been color manipulated. It was a white rose blushing into pink at the edges. What drew me to photograph it was the palest bit of yellow warmly radiating from the center. But as too often happens with my camera the close up focus wound up fuzzy, while the veins and imperfections and insect bites in the leaves behind were crisp and clear. However, this sort of unhappy result prompts me to experiment, to see if I might make a photo from a failure after all. In this case I'm content -- if not over-joyed -- with the results.
"In the Cave of Ice," below, is also color manipulated. However, the focus on this different rose center was actually fine. I deliberately fooled around with it "post-production" to try to create a water color painting effect and am quite happy with how it turned out.
And last, here's "The Promise," heavily computer manipulated:
BTW, by "manipulated" I do not mean moving shapes/objects around within a photo, or introducing ones that were not already there. I'm just referring to color, focus, contrast, rotation, and cropping. Of course, that's a considerable amount of fussing to do with a photo, isn't it? :-)
