THE COOL DOWN
"The Cool Down" (5-13-18 010v2b) was just tortured out of one of those pix of canna leaves I've been nattering on about the past couple of days. Nothing much else to add to what I've been saying here. Except to share a different crop of the same pic version:
It's not as balanced visually (5-13-18 010v3c1), and that's actually what I like more about it. Yet the imbalance tends to bring out (and leave in) some distracting spots. So, what to do, what to do ... well, probably I should just not to take this all so seriously. Nothing's perfect (and "nothing lasts and nothing is finished," to complete that ancient Japanese aesthetic), much less anything I produce. Have I ever mentioned here that I consider my work -- both pix and poems -- to be massively mediocre? That's not self-pity, or a manipulative bid for compliments, just an honest self-assessment. However, that hasn't ever relieved me of the compelling urge to perfect my efforts. That I then feel equally compelled to put out in the world in some way, even as I fear negative or worse yet no response. That's not to say I don't get good reactions at times, but mostly it's silence. Which leaves me feeling like that joke in which a little, not so bright kid, keeps hitting his head with a hammer. And when asked why he was doing it he replies "Because it feels so good when I stop!" :-D
