Diaspora, is from that mostly disappointing batch of pictures I took yesterday. My on-going moodiness combined with an unhappy (low-end to begin with) camera is taking some of the joy out of snapping pix. Well, the actual taking is still fun; I always approach the scenes I come across with hope. But what I'm finding on my computer screen on downloading the photos and what little I'm making out of it all, is discouraging. Yeah, I sort of like the above photo, but that doesn't help me feel any better about all the "failed" shots and edits in that folder. And "Diaspora" is also pretty much like too many of my other pix. So add a certain boredom with what I'm coming up with to that complaint list. Ah well, as I've probably said here before when in this mood, maybe once I get a better camera and a more sophisticated editing program something will get shaken out of the trees.

I hasten to add that I've ordered a book that includes lots of information on the types of cameras now available. Along with technical tips and such, which I definitely need to pay much more attention to. Automatic settings just don't work in all situations, much less when one has very particular ideas for a shot. Such as when I approached the above cactus I already knew what I would almost certainly emphasize in post production. More knowledge of how to adjust my camera (any camera) manually would have minimized, maybe even prevented the problems I had editing it. And improved the resulting photo.

NOTE: In most browsers you can click on a photo to view a larger version. There are many more photos posted here than show at any given time in this left-hand column. See the Archives listing (below Previous Posts) in the right hand column. And here’s the link if you wish to read an Introduction, Background, & Technical Aspects post about this blog.
