WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND
"Windmills of Your Mind" is my only deliberately black and white photo. (The maybe half dozen others only wound up looking black and white because of the light -- or rather lack thereof -- I took them in.) It was OK in its original green glory, but I have many of this plant very much like this shot. And I also wanted to somehow emphasize that interesting swath of bright sunlight that just wasn't coming across in the full color version. When I tried black and white I was happy to see that it did bring out that swath of light. And to my surprise it also made the "petals" look more rigid, more wood-like, even manufactured by human hands.
I actually first thought this black and white version resembled an exhaust fan. Then it hit me: "Windmills of Your Mind." (I highly recommend visiting that link to read the incredibly poetic lyrics, if you don't recall the song. And even listening to the song -- just search YOUTUBE -- as the melody is fabulous, too. Once again, a little photo of mine has to bear up under association to a heavy title.)
In addition to the windmill connection, I also really liked the title's reference to the human mind associating it via my photo to "black and white thinking." It sometimes takes me a while to recognize black and white thinking in myself. It just sort of sneaks in and keeps going. In fact that repetitiveness is a clue to its probable presence, like a windmill turning and turning ...

Wow! I love the metallic look. Those petals could cut.
Yeah, they could, couldn't they? "Don't stick your fingers in the fan, children!" :-) Hope winter back east is treating you well, Eva. We've had some frozen crops here in central CA. Brrrrr....
