Night Gym, above, is a re-working of an over two year old picture. I've always liked the original ("After Escher") but wanted to bring out the night time view I kept seeing in it, as well.

And in keeping with the night time theme, here's a revisioning of a three year old picture, that I'm calling Holding Back the Night:

A Winter's Walk is a three year old photo that I just vastly re-edited (for the umpteenth time) this morning. It's a complete experiment. The original is titled "After Salvador Dali," so that might give you an idea of what I began my experimenting with.

The original of Gravitating to the Light is from the same folder of pictures as the one I posted yesterday. However, I just made this version today. It's clearly heavily computer manipulated (massively cropped, colors inverted and further changed, etc.). I'm finding I'm actually enjoying working a bit with the more earthy tones. And I'd always been drawn to those shapes at the center of the pale pink flower in the original photo, but not until I cropped the picture and inverted the colors did they "come to life."

Free Lunch is another two and a half year old photo that I just made this new version of this morning. I'm really holding myself back from also sharing the other version I made this morning in my favorite family of colors (yes, purples and blues), to try to lessen the grip of that habit. Not that I don't like the colors in this version above. I do very much and I do want to open up my visual palette, if you will, to a fuller appreciation of other possibilities even if I didn't. But habit (some might say "personal taste") is a strong pull. One I'm resisting, at least today.

Broody Hen above, is two and a half years old. I've re-cropped it many times over that period, and decided to post it today as last cropped (and no color manipulation). I've always sort of liked it but always had an urge to re-crop at the same time. Who knows, I may run across it again and do so but for now I'm content with it.

Ooops! Tell a lie. I just made a second version of it:

I'm calling version two Need a Lift? I re-cropped and inverted the colors, then used a few different functions to re-color it. Part of me wants to intensify the coloring, but another part has the urge to try out softer colors for once. So I'll leave it as is.

Heartening is only a few days old, just edited this morning. Almost always when I fool around with a photo I have little idea where I want to go. Sometimes I don't even know until a title occurs to me. And this was the case today. After working on a rather pointed dream poem just before this, it was indeed rather heartening to have these sort of candy heart-shaped blossoms show up once I cropped, color inverted, and began trying a different solid color for the entire picture. (They are actually pink blooms, with greenery behind them.)
