REMEMBERING MARIAH

"Remembering Mariah" (4-24-10 10011v5) was just fussed out of a very old photo. (There's another new version on my dreams & poetry blog today, too.) Mariah is the woman in whose memory this particular bush was planted. It's the only one that has this particular delicious color of roses. Actually, all the memorial rose bushes bloom with wonderful colors. I'm just waaaay partial to the purple/magenta/fuchsia family. (In truth, the actual color in the photo isn't quite so fuchsia but more magenta; blogger must not have that particular shade in it's color palette.) And there's another bush that has very pale lavender blooms that knocks my socks off. Then again, there's a type of rose blooming now in a delicate pale yellow with soft blush edges that's sensational.

GARDEN GOLD

I've had the source photo for "Garden Gold" (4-24-10 10006v4) hanging around for years. Just didn't want to delete it but couldn't come up with a good version, neither in coloring nor crop. The crop has been particularly frustrating as it has some intense background problems. And I just didn't like the pic enough to go through a great deal of painting out. But I did like it enough to hang on to it, thinking, well, maybe someday ... and today's that someday. Maybe not a gold medal someday, but the results are good enough to share here.

THE LITTLEST BALLERINA; & SANDSTONED

"The Littlest Ballerina" (11-26-14 009v2) above, was just morphed from a new photo of a rose center, the same one as "Sandstoned" (11-26-14 009v5) below:

Nothing much to say; they've clearly been heavily Photoshopped, especially "Sandstoned." BTW, for anyone familiar with Photoshop filters, I did not get that somewhat sandstone effect using the sandstone filter. It's the upshot of applying several others.

I will close with the hope that your Thanksgiving has been delightful. As I said on my other blog today, I have a great deal to be grateful for (even the struggles and challenges). I am truly fortunate.

BALLOONING FANTASY

"Ballooning Fantasy" (11-26-14 003v4) was just taken and morphed today. (I hasten to add that those shapes were in the rose itself. They've only been ever so slightly rounded in places by some of the filters I used in Photoshop.) This photo and title hark back to my memories of the massive helium balloons in the New York City Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Or rather the impact they had on my childhood imagination. I remember arriving home one time from viewing the parade live (i.e., not on T.V.) and running straight for my crayon box.

SUN DREAMING

"Sun Dreaming" (11-19-09 8260v3) was just fussed out of another very old photo of mine. I like it but (as usual) have some minor issues with it. E.g., I've tried more crops of its original source pic than I'd care to admit to and am only mildly OK with this one. It also needed a lot of cleaning up. (The actual rose was rather dusty, though I don't recall why. It might have been ashes from a wild fire.) Yet, I still feel drawn enough to it to post it today.

HOLDING OUT HOPE

"Holding Out Hope" (11-19-09 8259ev2) is an old morph of an even older photo that I just tweaked some more today. I'm not really at ease with it yet, but there's only so much I find I can do to a photo before it falls apart (metaphorically speaking) completely. So I thought I'd stop fussing at this one while it's still cohesive and holding interest for me. I'm probably most drawn by the colors, and I know I like the watercolor effect (not a filter, but the end result of lots of other things I did to it years ago in my pre-Photoshop days). BTW, those curving shapes were there in the original pic; they're the "unwinding" center petals of a rose. I much prefer going with the shapes already present in a pic, to using Photoshop to reshape them (though I do find that fun, too).

HANG GLIDING

"Hang Gliding" (11-19-09 8258ev9) is a brand new morph of one of my oldest pix. Of course, as is my wont, it's in the company of several other new versions. I'm not over the moon about this particular one but it does tickle me. And given the mood I've been in for days, that's saying something. Not sure what, but something more just just a "meh" vote for "Hang Gliding."
