THE BIG CURL

Something happened on the way to this pic, "The Big Curl" (6-28-16 001v8). I got all tangled up in an earlier version, determined to make it work as there was that about it that I really liked. But it just wasn't happening. I did get close, though, ultimately so close that I finally decided to settle and post that darker, brighter, more heavily detailed version anyway. And one last urge hit me: try inverting the colors. And when I did there on my screen was the pic I'd been chasing after through all the editing I'd done previously. Of course now that I'm actually posting it I'm not quite as content with it. But at least I like it quite a bit more than the uninverted version. BTW, just click on the image if you'd like to see some of the detail.

HARBORING A SECRET

"Harboring A Secret" (3-28-16 025v2a) doesn't bowl me over, but it does tug at me to post it. Maybe it's the tenderness about it. Also, it's nice when I succeed in getting a shot that I have to do very little to. Mostly, though, I'm always drawn by those spiraling petals at the centers of roses.

JOY WILL OUT

"Joy Will Out" (6-30-16 005v2e) is from a brand new batch of pix. And it was a long editing road to it, for whatever it may be worth. I'm blurry eyed (was up extra early today to help someone with computer stuff) so I'm stopping at this pic, even if it may only offer a weird little suggestion of joy, even to my eyes. Hey, that's better than none.

THE GIFT THAT GOES ON GIVING

I've posted another version here of "The Gift That Goes on Giving" (6-6-16 005v3) in unnatural colors. Not much else to say except that today I really appreciate this fern in its more natural coloration. I say "more natural" as I did saturate the green and make the background totally black for the sake of intensifying the contrast. I also saturated the yellows so that those little curlicues stand out more. Yeah, I've done this to other fern pix. So shoot me, I (clearly) really like the effect. Smile.

PEACE WALK

I just took a slew of different shots of this stone labyrinth this morning ("Peace Walk" 6-28-16 012v2a). That's a bit of St. Michael's Church, in Isla Vista just a few blocks from where I live, in the mid-background. I've been wanting to get shots of this labyrinth for a long time but haven't been able to walk this far as I can't rely on there being a bench or stoop when I have to rest. But I finally did what I've been threatening to do for months: I took my walker which has a seat. I swallowed my pride (and my not wanting my neighbors to think I'm worse off than ever) for the sake of doing something I really wanted to. And I'm really glad I did. And I only had to sit on the walker seat twice: after taking the first round of shots, and then again after walking the labyrinth. Yes! I walked that labyrinth, too. I have a tube taped to the side of my walker in which I always carry my walking stick when I use my walker (heretofore just to haul heavy things, like laundry and big cartons). So I was able to walk slowly around and more fully appreciate the stones. I have to admit though I made it to the center I did not walk it back out, but cheated. However, doing it at all was much more than I'd thought I'd be up to when I planned this trial outing using my walker-cum-seat. Not to mention I have voluminous notes for a poem (or maybe several, that remains to be seen). I also have a bunch of shots, though I'm not all that delighted with them. This (and one or two others) are about the best of the bunch. But, again, that I got there to get any shots at all makes me very happy.

HABITAT OF THE ROSE

"Habitat of the Rose" (6-12-16 001v7) is very similar to another shot of this same rose I posted here recently. Only I've left much more of its surrounding greenery in the crop. It's one of those that I personally like, but my critiquing eye gives a "meh" and yawns.
