Before Bessemer is a brand new edit of a three year old photo. I was going through old pictures, trying out different things on them but nothing was turning out interesting. I was beginning to think there's only so long one can survive by cannibalizing old photos before one must take some new ones for nourishing inspiration. Then this one popped up on my screen on color reversing after heavy cropping and a bit of minor brightening and saturating. Yes, another old picture that never really worked all that well to begin with, transformed.

Cuddling (above) is a three year old photo; one of my earliest. These sweet "faces" have always drawn me so thought I'd share them here today.

This one next below is from the same batch of photos as "Cuddling." It's called Cycles.

I could wish for better focus. However, it was taken with my old loaner camera with even less pixel count than my current one and it's been cropped quite a bit. But I'm fond of anyway it for the memories it raises of the long walks I used to be able to take, snapping picture after picture as I did these two. (One day I took over 100! Nearly developed carpal tunnel syndrome editing them all. Yeah, I edited them all in one fell swoop; I was anxious to see what worked and what didn't.) I also enjoy those spotty shadows.

Mesa Sunrise (above) is another version of "Wild, Wild Horses" that I posted here day before yesterday. I was drawn to this particular section that's sort of mouth-like in the original, so cropped it way down and did a bit of re-coloring after also reversing the color. An image seems to have been calling me; the photo today on my dreams & poetry blog vaguely resembles looking into an open mouth and the dream poem it accompanies is about singing. And the original name for "Wild, Wild Horses" was even "From the Horses Mouth." Hm ....

Paternalia (above) is a re-edit of an over two year old photo. I'm not sure why I like it; possibly just the repeating pattern of the fiddle fern leaves. Also, the blue coloring calls to mind delftware (Dutch pottery) that I had (probably imitation) souvenir pieces of as a child. I've also made a reversed color version, below, called The Midas Touch that I don't like as much:

And here's the original,Centrical, which on viewing now to post here I think I may actually like most of the three versions:

Wild, Wild Horses was a bit of a surprise when it showed up after color-reversing the original, on which I'd already done some color changing. But a good surprise as it immediately then called to mind neighing, rearing horses -- an animal I have loved since early childhood. So as startling as this image may be to some folk (and I know it might be), I'm letting it stand as it gives me pleasure to look at it.

In a way this photo is also a statement of something I've been coming to slowly for months now. That is, I've been resisting recognizing how much I still bow to the expressed opinions of others, and what I assume they will be, when sharing my pictures and worse yet when editing them. There's a part of me that's been "chomping at the bit" to just do it's own thing whether it pleases others or not. Therefore, today's wild horses.

Unfortunately, although I can and will stick more to my own lights when editing and sharing pictures, very few will have the clarity of detail this one has. It was one of the extremely few I took with a loaner, much higher-end camera than my own. And a better camera is not even in the distant offing for me right now.
