[lilies 1] ; [lilies 2]; & DINNER NOW SERVING

For some reason I can't think of what to call either of these two new versions of an old pic (6-19-09 2516 [lilies 1]ev2 & [lilies 2]ev3), above and below:

Maybe my awareness of how an unfussed with pic of them looks is just too strong. "Dinner Now Serving" (6-19-09 2513e) below (the old version, posted here almost two years ago) may give you at least an idea of their visual impact:

I keep recalling also what a fellow resident once told me, that bats actually feed from these (hence the title). That's not so impossible, given how large these blooms are. Sadly, they haven't appeared in our Promenade garden again since I took this photo.

MIASM

"Miasm" is just one of many versions I've made from the same recent photo. And posted to both this blog, and my dreams & poetry blog. It won't be the last. My eye got tugged by two or three other versions just now, both for posting and further fooling around with. Who gets caught up in things? Moi? Although before that I had managed to pull myself away from that really old folder of pix I've been stuck in for days. So I suppose that's progress of sorts. :-)

TRANSMIGRATION

Yes, "Transmigration" (3-21-10 10006v9) is yet another re-visioning of a photo from that old folder full of pix that I'm being drawn back to, again and again. Not much to say about it except that the pic it's extruded from had also been heavily cropped and edited, quite some time ago. When this version appeared on my screen yesterday I thought maybe it had finally arrived where I'd felt it heading all those years back.

THE HAUNTED FOREST; & TOO MANY SHADES OF GREY

"The Haunted Forest" (3-21-10 10008v6) above is another photo from the years old folder I've been stuck in for a few days, albeit a fresh take. And below is a recoloring, called "Too Many Shades of Grey" (3-21-10 10008v7):

By the way, I cropped this pic from the shot I posted here yesterday. Still trying to get at whatever it is that captures me about a profusion of reaching, tangled branches.

QUITE A STRETCH

"Quite A Stretch" (3-21-10 10008) is in that same old folder of pix I posted from yesterday, but it's a new crop. I am so fond of this sort of tree and blush to admit I still haven't found out what they're called. Even after six years of living around them. I have many shots of this particular tree, some from right up close into its branches. And the roots that gnarl about around the base of its trunk have also captured my camera. So even though I can no longer walk over there to take new pix, I have a supply to keep me happy. (Someone offered the other day to drive me to sights like this I'd like to photograph, but even getting in and out of a car is too hard right now. However, that's something I'm hopeful will eventually change.)

RAIN WORSHIPER; RAINBOW'S END; & SKETCH FOR HIBISCUS

"Rain Worshiper" (3-21-10 10046ev7) above, is one of several versions I made yesterday of this very old photo. Below is another, "Rainbow's End" (3-21-10 10046ev3):

And last below (but not the last of the versions I've made) is "Sketch for Hibiscus" (3-21-10 10046ev2):

Apropos of nothing, the folder these are in is one of those I can't get out of when I stumbled across it. I must have taken at least 100 pix that day (not all that unusual when I was still able to take long photography walks). And many have survived the occasional culling I've done of pix over the years, due to intriguing shapes. I also get sentimental recalling where I took them and don't want to give up on the pix. You'd think I was talking about decades ago, but it was just four years back. Yet a lot has changed for me in that time, and I'm grateful for the pix.

RED SKY AT MORNING

"Red Sky At Morning" (3-21-10 10008v2) was just re-worked today from a very old photo of mine. As I worked on it I realized it was beginning to resemble an image from one of my dreams last night. I've assumed many times that my liking of a particular photo and/or the versions I make of it may very well be rooted in dream images. (As well as waking memories.) But this is the first time I've caught the resemblance quite consciously to one of my dreams.
