... and here I am, back to a flower center again. Hatching is an almost two year old photo that I just edited this morning (extensive cropping, but only minor color saturation and "texturizing"). It's one of those that was just too busy in its original form (lots of blossoms, most of them floppy side views, and too much distracting greenery). But I liked the particular rose this version is cropped from the center of, so saved it. Thinking to work on it some time in the future.

In the first year and a half, I had no idea what a huge undertaking digital photography would become for me. So I just left photos I wanted to work on some other time in their folders with no particular "flagging." Thinking I'd remember to come back to them, but this proved to be wishful thinking, as the numbers of photo file folders continued grow on my computer. Eventually, I realized I could - and should - have a computer category called "needs editing," and began so flagging those yet to be worked on. However, "Hatching" is one of those from before the time of that category, and there are many others. Hopefully I'll keep stumbling across them when I wander aimlessly through my oldest picture folders. As happened with "Hatching" today.

The Little Mermaid Dreams was taken over two years ago with a loaner camera. I've done extensive cropping and a wee bit of fooling around to soften and brighten the colors. However, this resultant version does pretty much echo what was a beautiful sunset, just before a huge full moon. For those of you familiar with the area, those are the Channel Islands on the horizon, seen from Goleta Beach.

This is a draft I made on request for apology note cards, now called Quaternity. When initially designed as an apology card, I put "No matter how I look at it, I owe you an apology" on the inside; it's now blank.

This style note card has to be ordered a dozen at a time, are 4-1/4" X 5-1/2, with envelope. As with the greeting card designs I've shared here, I doubt I'll ever get into marketing them. I just share the design here as an example of the sort of fun I have with my photos. The source picture for this note card is of a white rose that I reversed the colors on, and then tried out various mono-tone versions.

Dreaming of Orchids is a recent photo that I just today re-colored. This white orchid shot was not particularly engaging in the original colors. However, I think the change to sepia tones may be pleasing only to me, or maybe at most to anyone else who's aware of dreaming largely in sepia-like shades. (I've heard it's not uncomon.) Yes, I never dream in full color, and only rarely do certain objects within a dream have bright color. Many times I don't even "see" the bright color, but "know" while dreaming what the color of the object is. However, most of the time, if I note the issue of color at all on waking, I recall black and white, or more frequently sepia tones.

Storm Tossed is literally of post-storm tumbled canna leaves. I took it about two and a half years ago in that stand of cannas I keep talking about on this blog. The only thing I did to it today was to color-saturate it a wee bit and work on the crop slightly.

Here's one of a canna blossom, taken in that same stand about a week earlier. It always makes me smile when I come across it, and the title reveals why: Goatee:

Here's a photo from April of 2011, named Lending An Ear. Don't have much to say about it except that I enjoy looking at the shapes of leaves like these. I tend to think of them as elephant ears, which if true would certainly make for capacious listening.

I should probably take this picture back to the original and start over. I might be able to avoid some of the painting-out I had to do back when I first took it, now that I'm a little more experienced with the various editing programs I have and their functions. Also, I could probably improve a bit on the crop (that white space in the upper left jumps out at me more than it used to). But I'd rather just leave this photo be and enjoy the colors and shapes, as they are. A friend used to call poems she just had no heart or inclination left to work on "flawed jems." I'd say this applies here, with the emphasis on "flawed."
