A TOWERING CONCEIT

"A Towering Conceit" (8-12-15 011v5) was just morphed this morning from a brand new pic. And that's really about all I can say about it. Except that I posted a previous, realistic version here on my dreams & poetry blog this morning.

THE FUTURE LOOMS

"The Future Looms" (6-15-15 007v2) is a recent pic, taken from the second floor above the front gate of our retirement community. Unfortunately that building will eventually mostly block our view of those foothills. Which are endlessly interesting, changing with the light and weather (though they may not look so in this pic, or actually any pic I've managed to get so far). Things keep changing around here and this old lady does her best to adjust without too much grouching. That building, after all, is a needed addition to UCSB's accommodations for visiting academics. (I.e, the University of California at Santa Barbara. It's a big part of the life of our immediate area, and of the Santa Barbara area as a whole.)

WINKING AT THE SHADOWS

"Winking At The Shadows" (10-1-11 11305v2a) is from that same old folder of pix I've been working in for a few days. (I just finished this one this morning.) What a delight! I've not had to roam far afield, through folder after folder, to have fun exploring and experimenting.

THE SUN BREAKS THROUGH

"The Sun Breaks Through" (10-1-11 11320v7a) was just fudged this morning, from the same crop of the old pic I posted two versions of yesterday. Yeah, not only do I tend to get caught on one particular photo, but also in particular folders of pix. This folder from October 2011 keeps drawing me back to see what I can mine from its depths.

REBIRTH; & WARMING TO THE IDEA

"Rebirth" (10-1-11 11319v6) above is from a very old photo, just morphed this morning. And here below is "Warming to the Idea" (10-1-11 11319v8). Clearly the same morph with color palette changed and slightly saturated:

I couldn't chose which I'd rather post, so both it is. These (and several other versions of this same pic that didn't work) kept me quite amused this morning. What ever would I do without this toy of my computer to play with?

OUT OF THE SHADOWS

"Out of the Shadows" (4-21-15 004v3w) was just morphed this morning from a fairly recent photo. I have gazillions of versions of this one crop of the original shot. Then there's all the versions I've made of other pix of the same fern that I took that day. This is one spring romance I'm very happy to have drag out (smile). Oh, about the pic? I've discovered a fun combination of filters. When I alternate a series (maybe two or three) of sharpening with anistropic diffuse I get that sort of melting/painting like yet still nicely clear outline effect at edges. Rather more pleasing to my eye than other ways of outlining or emphasizing edges in Photoshop. BTW, much more was done to this pic along the way, but it was this that made me say at last "Ah-HAH, I've found my post for the day!" I hasten to add that I did nothing to those lovely fern shapes and curves. Those are due entirely to the fern's natural artistry.

EN POINTE

This might better be titled "Meh..." than "En Pointe" (6-24-15 0007v8). But I've been at this pic, and several other versions, for longer than I'd care to admit this morning. So I'll just leave it be and post it. I do like its colors and shapes, and the odd crop. But even all that doesn't add up to a fully satisfying result. Maybe (as often happens) I'll stumble across it down the road a piece and know right away what it needs to wake it up, to help it more fully make its point.
