THE CHANNELS EMERGE

I just fussed "The Channels Emerge" (11-2-17 035v2a) into shape today from a very recent pic. The day was slightly hazy but I'm not sure if that comes across. Or if the way I've worked at the color/contrasts just looks "off." I'd have left the colors/contrast alone but they were bleached out in the original. Be that as it may, I enjoy this pic as it's only in the past, oh, ten days or so that the Channel Islands have been visible again. They "disappear" for months during the year and emerge once more. I haven't quite got their "schedule" down yet, so the change is always a surprise. Of course, weather also effects how visible they are or aren't. There's a map at the fence of this overlook park that has the names of the various islands in this chain. But I don't have those memorized, either. From what folk have said when I get back from a walk and mention that the islands were out, the one seen here is the largest of the bunch.

DIFFERENT PATHS

"Different Paths" (11-9-17 017v2) was the last pic I took after my walk today -- on my way back into the retirement community grounds where I live. (That building is across the street from our grounds. It's for scholars who are visiting the University of CA at Santa Barbara. UCSB is where I often walk to.) Nice change for me from morphing pix of myself as I've been doing the past few days. Wish I could get the rest of my focus off myself, too. But it seems that the old (or young, or any age) brain has the say. I'm reading a new book on meditation, ALTERED TRAITS. And just as I've read elsewhere previously, it's encouraging to hear again that our brains are rather more plastic than we think. The bad news? Again, something I've gathered before in reading, any lasting deep changes take a lot of consistent work. Good news? No age limit. Sigh. I'd rather just pop out of persistent depression by taking pix and writing poems and maneuvering my walker around Isla Vista and environs, and even sometimes by being with people (that's a recent development). But I'll finish the book and maybe get energized to meditate regularly. If I only reach the occasional temporary changes level, that would be an improvement. Ooops! This is supposed to be a photo blog, isn't it? And I like today's pic quite a lot. Realistic, good focus, interesting subject (at least to me). True, the colors were difficult to deal with and not ideal now but the best I could come up with. Again I wonder how much my advancing cataracts effect my color perception .... Also, this pic is probably best viewed in a larger version, so just click on the image if you're interested.

SURPRISED BY THE LIGHT

"Surprised By the Light" (11-2-17 011v9a) was just morphed from another of those Halloween selfies I took. I always forget what fun it is to mess with pix of people. And usually only rediscover that when I've taken that rare selfie that I do (e.g. to show my New York City BFF my new earrings, or at Halloween for a record of my costume). Maybe I should take pix of other people, too. Only problem there is I don't know how many would like to see themselves morphed all out of recognition! LOL! And they would want to see the results.

THE VIEW ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE

"The View Across the Great Divide" (11-2-17 016v2a) was just morphed from a Halloween selfie taken in my bathroom mirrors. Nothing much to say about it, except that I'm feeling that divide acutely these days. That gap between myself and others (especially the male of the species).
