HONEYCOMB CONVENTION

"Honeycomb Convention" (8-14-14 005v12a) was just further fussed today out of a somewhat older pic morph. It may seem surprising but to get these shapes did not take a huge amount of filtering in Photoshop. If I recall, the underlying filters are plastic wrap and stained glass, also one of the sketch filters that outlines. I also must have originally done a color inversion, and some sort of mild distorting. The bulk of the work today, though, was getting the colors and contrasts to work. (Though how they actually now appear on your screen in questionable. As too often, once I saw this pic in I.E. and in Chrome, the colors were not quite as bright as they are in Photoshop, on my desktop, and in MS Picture Manager. Sigh. The inconsistencies of technology.)

SPIRIT DANCER

"Spirit Dancer" (8-12-14 013v18) has been hanging fire in it's folder for well over a year. I just today saw what it needed (a wee bit of cropping and slight increase in contrast) for me to feel good about letting it do its dance here.

STARFALL

"Starfall" (1-17-15 004v4c) is another version of a pic I posted to my dreams & poetry blog this morning. Another pic I've become enamored of, even though those two palms could be seen as too balanced within the frame of it. However, I keep answering that thought with the feeling that they look just fine to me. That is, the other part of me that feels about a pic, as opposed to thinking in terms of what I've learned about composition, etc. So just as those palms keep balancing each other within the pic, I keep finding my reactions to them are about equally balanced (pro and con), too. Yet the upshot is I'm happy with it anyway. Maybe it's another of those pix that only its mother can love.

WATCHERS

Sigh, "Watchers" (1-17-15 020v2a) is like one of those illusion drawings that you look at one way and it's one thing, another way and it's something else altogether. That is, one minute I like it, all seems balanced. And the next, I itch to crop it further in order to balance out its component shapes. Which, by the way, I have tried and it loses any interest for me completely. So I'm leaving it as is, the way it most speaks to me in a good way. Well, good that is as a photo. The scene itself is sad. That's the beginning of a two-story building going up across the street, which will block a huge part of this favorite view of mine. It's beginning to feel like New York City (where I hail from) around here. Everything is either in construction or deconstruction. On better days I'm more accepting, but not right now. (Especially not with some horrendous drilling going on right now in my immediate next door neighbor's rooms.)

IN THE EYE OF THE CHIMERA

"In the Eye of the Chimera" (7-22-09 4084v2d) was just morphed from one of my oldest pix. There are more layers of filters and such beneath this final result than I'd care to shake a stick at. But it was great fun to get lost in that sort of experimenting and concentration. Even though I really only kept going after a certain point because I refused to believe that one pic version wouldn't pop on my screen that I'd like. And this one finally did. I caught that chimera (kinda, sorta...).

WINTER MOON RISING

"Winter Moon Rising" (2-16-11 10507v6) was just morphed today from an old photo. And, for a change, that's all I have to say. Except that (yeah, bet you just knew there had to be an exception) those lines and shapes are exactly as they were in the original. I didn't fudge with them at all. And they are what has kept me coming back to this problematic photo for years. I think this version finally gets at what I wanted to bring out.

SHE CLOSETS ...

Yup, still stuck in haiga gear. "She closets..." (HAIGA; 10-17-10 10001ev2) is one of my old dream-based monoku (one line dream haiku) on a favorite old photo of mine. Quite honestly, only having to figure out how to work with text on a photo in Photoshop is stopping me at this point from making some new haiga. Actually, I researched the process sometime ago and even printed out instructions. However, I know from long experience that's only the beginning of the learning I'll have to do once I get down to it. So, I'm leaving it for a day when I feel both more adventurous and more grounded. When I'm ready to follow that glitter trail and see where it leads me now.
