IN YOUR FACE

"In Your Face" (10-27-15 022v2) is a recent pic that I've had in this version for a little while now. I've been using subsequent, nearly abstract versions either here or on my dreams&poetry blog. And now I'm finally posting this one; which at least today, is the one I like the most.

SIDE BY SIDE

"Side by Side" (3-14-14 025v4) is a new version of an old photo, just fixed up to my (almost) satisfaction this morning after fussing at it endlessly yesterday. It's still surprising to me how if a photo sits for a while (like overnight) before posting I'll occasionally see something glaring that needs fixing or that would be an obvious improvement, that I didn't before. Same's often true for my poems. And can even happen after a poem or pic has been around for years.

STORM CROSSING

"Storm Crossing" (10-27-15 011v4e) was just morphed today from a recent photo. Not sure I'm content with this pic but I've been working on various versions of different pix for a while this morning and this one is at least the best so far. I've been in one of those times for a while now when very little I'm producing feels worth more than a sort of weak "OK." (That goes for my dream poems, too.) This state of mind/perception will pass (at least it always has before). Or, as I'm more inclined to think, I'll start producing work that is actually more satisfying. I.e., meeting more of both my personal criteria and learned aesthetics.

COMING APART AT THE SEAMS

"Coming Apart at the Seams" (10-27-15 022v2) (apart from being how I've been feeling for days now) is a recent pic, just morphed today. Of course, it's one of many different versions of the same crop of the original pic. It's been so worked over that it kept going a bit wonky on me -- pixelated, as the expression goes. Which then required either back-tracking to an earlier version, or doing something to eliminate the "pixies." Usually I enjoy the challenge but today I'm just too frayed. So I was grateful when this popped on my screen without ticky-tacky little boxes or subtle lines marching across the pic. And that's really more why it's being posted than because I like it a whole lot. I can't honestly trust my "like" meter very much today. Though were I to guess, I think I do like it.

INSIDE THE OUTSIDE

"Inside the Outside" (1027-15 015v5) is a recent pic, just morphed today. As I've said here many times before, I really like looking at and taking pix of our outside staircases. The challenge of trying to frame, and cropping as necessary, pix of their shadows and long lines and angles in a visually balanced way, is an on-going delight.

ORANGE YOU LOVELY

"Orange You Lovely" (10-24-15 019v2) is an earlier version of the pic I posted yesterday. Although closer to the original pic, I still did quite a bit of fussing with it. It's been heavily cropped (as I can't clamber over rough ground to get in close, I often take shots from a distance and hope I can get good results with cropping). It also needed some cleaning up (background and petal "schmutz"). And I used a couple filters on it to fudge with the texture, as I wanted to soften and bring out those lovely curved edges. When I do that I almost always then have to sharpen a pic a little, as I did here. I also did a wee bit of color saturation. (BTW, did I mention that my new camera had gone into a coma? I was taking pix of our Halloween costume party revelers and it just wouldn't turn on again. And the lens froze in open position, though it was retracted. I've been doing some googling and trying to get advice on what I might try, that I haven't already. I'm afraid the coma is terminal. But there are a couple other long shots I can try when I'm up to it. In the meantime, I'm back to my old Samsung. Today's pic was taken with the now comatose Nikkon.)

OUTSIDE IN

"Outside In" (10-24-15 019v10) is a recent pic, just fudged with today. What else to say? It's (as usual) only one of several versions already. Although I have one in a color combo I much prefer (the blue/pink family) I thought I'd put this one up as there's something suggestive about it in these colors that doesn't come through in the other one. Something more earthy and cave-like. Hm, like autumn, when leaves return to the earth and creatures begin to seek shelter for the winter.
