PROFILE OF PARADISE

"Profile of Paradise" (10-27-15 040v3a) is a new pic just finished yesterday. And what a lot of clean-up I had to do on this one! There was so much "schumutz" in the background greenery. And where there weren't distracting spots, there were bits of daylight glaring through and grabbing the viewing attention. But I so like these blossoms in profile that I was determined to make the shot come a whole lot closer to what I'd wanted it to be when I took it. Only thing now? I wish that it's "neck" could have been left longer. But there was a distant ground light claiming the space behind the lower portion of the "neck" and it had to be cropped out. No way it could have been painted out and not look as if that's exactly what I'd done. I often miss these sorts of back ground distractions when framing shots unfortunately. Between the vagaries of compact digital camera view screens and my no longer terrific eye sight I just miss a lot of stuff. All that said, I'm still happy with this profile.

"Me, too!"

"Me, too!" (11-1-15 013v2) is very new and just cleaned up yesterday. No great shakes, it could be in sharper focus. But it's not a terrible pic of a lamp I enjoy looking at. It comes on right about sunset. This is the first shot I've gotten at that time; others I've snapped were at night. This is also the first shot I took from an angle that gave that fir tree plenty of space; usually it's partially hidden by the lamp. Sadly, that fir is not a very happy camper [drought? pot bound?] but it keeps on raising its little "lights" to the sky.

NIGHT BLOOMERS

"Night Bloomers" (10-27-15 009v4) was just morphed from a new pic. I'm surprised the poor thing didn't fall apart right in front of my eyes given all I tried on it. This filter, that one, these color combos, no, these ... sharpen, no needs to be blurred ... colors are too bright, no, they actually need saturating .. and (yikes!) now I see that the crop's all wrong! At one point I even took it waaaay back to where I felt I'd taken a terrible turn (which I rarely do, I usually just then scrap the version and start over with the original). I even did some painting out of distracting areas, and inverting and re-inverting, and re-re-inverting of colors (after fudging with them each time both collectively and individually), and on and on ... In a way I'm posting it simply because it survived and doesn't look bad at all for what it's been through.

PAPOOSE

"Papoose" (10-24-15 020v2) was just finished this morning. It's a new pic that's almost been ready for posting for a couple days now after some initial editing. It just needed, well, something I couldn't quite put my finger on. So it hit me today to try de-saturating its colors a bit, then "auto correcting" the colors (a function in Miscrosoft Picture Manager). ("Auto Correct" can sometimes do just the right amount of brightening and increasing of contrast.) And that proved to be what it needed for me to feel OK about putting it up today.

HERE, HAVE A SEAT

"Here, Have A Seat" (11-1-15 011v3) is a very new pic, just fudged with this morning. These chairs are another thing I photograph around here. And not just because I don't get off our grounds but rarely and (one might think) I've a limited amount of possible subjects. But because I enjoy coming across their shapes in various areas of our buildings, both indoors and out. However, this time, it was as much that band of light (that's dark now given what I've done to the pic) coming down at an angle that drew me to take out my camera. It's just this sort of thing that makes something new of the same old things. Just a slight difference in the weather or the time of day, and it's an entirely new shot.

THE WICKED WITCH & THE BUCKET OF WATER

"The Wicked Witch & The Bucket of Water" (10-7-15 v4) is from a very old pic, just "finished" today. Over the years it's been through a series of realistic versions and crops thereof. None of which have I found satisfying. But I've been having great fun morphing the behoositz out of it (as usual, I've made several other versions). As to the title, I still have a little bit of a happiness hangover from our retirement community's Halloween costume party, to which I went as a witch, and had a devil of a good time (is that mixing metaphors? smile).

REVEILLE

"Reveille" (10-24-15 011v2a) is a week old pic just cleaned up this morning. LOL, I was going to type I don't have much else to say about it. But that statement usually winds up being the prelude to some lengthy comment. However, it's pretty much the case here. Except (smile) that I realize it may be visually too busy for some folks' taste. But that's partly what I like about it. All that surrounding stuff beginning to "wake up" to the beauty in its midst.
