MAKING WAY

"Making Way" (6-5-09 1831v5) is from one of my oldest pix. One for which I've made (not at all surprisingly) several other versions. None that I feel like adding to this post today, however. I'd rather "make way" for some of the other work (both creative and otherwise) that I have filling my plate today.

MINING FOR MAGENTA; & INLET

Today's first pic version (above) is "Mining for Magenta" (9-29-12 12162v3).

And the second, below, is "Inlet" (9-29-12 12162v5) ... and enough said on both ...

WHITE ROSE; & BLACK LIGHT ROSE

About the only thing drawing me to post "White Rose" (4-29-12 11821v6), above, are those intriguing center petals. Well, that and the texture and curves of the surrounding petals, like a woman's nightgown in some gothic garden. (I've had a devil of a time today choosing anything, poem or photo, to post to my blogs.)

I'm even more hesitant to post "Black Light Rose" (4-29-12 11821v8), below, from the same original pic. But it puts me in mind of the black light posters my friends and I used to have in our apartments during my long ago hippie years so I'm going with that sentimental tug:

BRIARPATCH; & PETROGRAPHS

Both pix today are from a photo in that same old folder I can't seem to back myself out of. Just as if I can't get out of the "Briarpatch," above (8-4-13 003v20).

"Petrographs" (8-4-13 003v12), below, tugs at memories of photos of prehistoric cave wall paintings. That above center rust-colored shape puts me specifically in mind of an ancient goddess figure:

IN THE BEGINNING; & SEAHORSE HAVEN

The original photo for "In the Beginning" (8-23-09 5998v19), above, is from the same old folder of pix I've been rummaging around in for days. I'm seeing how in my first couple of years I got some rather more interesting flower center shots than I have since. Or maybe it's just my current and on-going "meh" mood that's influencing not only what I am drawn to edit, but what I choose to snap pix of to begin with. Anyway, below is "Seahorse Haven" (8-23-09 5998v14) from the same original photo:

BTW, both these pix versions were just made yesterday. And I do like them; especially "In the Beginning."

AROMA OF THE ROSE; & LAST CALL

"Aroma of the Rose" (8-23-09 5990v5) is another version of the very old photo I posted two of yesterday. I justified leaving the rose off center in those two, but since this is nigh on to abstract I cropped it in a more balanced way. Which also brings what's still apparent of the rose more to the fore of the pic. I think it works. At least I like it. Of course my critical assessment is suspect whenever fuchsia is in a picture. As I've noted here many times before I'm a sucker for it. It's even one of the few colors that show up occasionally in my dreams.

"Last Call" (8-23-09 5990v6) below is yet another version of that same old pic. I finally gave in and cropped it in as close as seemed balanced. And I kinda, sorta, like it. What drew me to this rose to begin with is now "front and center," so to speak:

PRAISE FOR THE NIGHT; & EVENSONG

Well, guess it's progress to be able to say I have a slightly better response to these two today than I have been having to my pix for some time. Above is "Praise for the Night" (8-23-09 5990v2) and below is "Evensong" (823-09 5990v3):

I think what I may like most about these two versions is that they are realistic. That what I saw in the rose "live" wound up on my screen -- those fabulous shapes and shadows of the petals. As to the overall composition/cropping? Not sure. But I don't want it to become static by cropping so that the rose is dead center. And any other way of cropping takes something ineffable away. Not to mention (as I'm about to :-D) that I find that lawn line in the background is at an awkward level. But, hey, I don't pretend to be a great photographer. So I'll just leave these two be, and live with these unsureties leavened by the joy of the shadows. (BTW, this is very old photo with a low pixel count. I kept holding my breath as I worked on it today, fearful it was going to go wonky any second. And praise be, it didn't.)
