TREE OF SORROW

"Tree of Sorrow" (2-13-17 020v2b) is a very new pic, just morphed a week or two ago. Any guesses what I'll say next? Yup, I have several versions of this one in the folder. Had a hard time deciding which best fit the title (yeah, sometimes a title comes for a bunch of related pix ...). Finally settled on this one, 'cuz overall it had the fewest little problems and the right color combo. I did try morphing another one just now and only succeeded in moving further away from what I felt calling to me in these pix. Best sometimes, I guess, to just leave things be. I'd do well to remember that in other areas of my life. BTW, this pic has a lot of fussy detail in it, so just click on the image if you'd like to see it all.

SPIRITS OF EARTH

"Spirits of Earth" (12-3-15 007v5f) was just slightly fussed with. It's a very old version of an even older pic. I have even more versions of this one than I sometimes produce of favorite pix. Blush: I just counted and it's two dozen! Lots of spirits to welcome to my computer screen. BTW, I chose this one because it was by far the simplest, i.e. the fewest and subtlest colors.

IN THE HEART OF SHADOW

"In the Heart of Shadow" (10-24-17 010v6) was just morphed yesterday (and further fudged today) out of a several month's old pic. The past couple of days I've been working even more assiduously than usual at getting down the number of pix I have on my poor computer. (13,000 -- blush --- which is a lot even for a quad core to handle with any alacrity at all.) Which, as I've said here (probably many times before) often means I add almost as many new pix as I delete or archive. Can't help it! I see things I hadn't before in my old pix and simply can't not give them a try. However, I have gotten tougher about what I'm saving and what I'm deleting. So this afternoon when I get to deleting/archiving I'm fairly certain that number will wind up below 13,000. I want to get it to 11,000 at most, though. Upshot is that, beyond easing the load on my hard drive, there's creative light in the center of the crowded darkness. Or maybe it's more that shining light, putting conscious attention to it can reveal surprising things. Like new pix ... ack ... and to be more honest, smile!

SPIRITS OF AIR, EARTH, FIRE, & WATER

"Spirits of Air, Earth, Fire, & Water" (2-22-17 005v2a) was just taken today and I had much fun morphing the behoositz out of it. (It's actually a view down onto the sea edge from the beach overlook, with a bit of sky at top and sandy land at bottom.) I may yet produce a realistic version I like, but who knows? This one satisfies my need to express what I felt standing there on this glorious, lightly windy day. Sometimes everything feels so much more "enspirited" than usual. I think I might be forgiven for yet another imitation of impressionist painting style. The way impressionists got across how light dances on things, has always given me that sense of aliveness that I began to aim for in this abstract.

DREAMY AFTERNOON

"Dreamy Afternoon" (2-15-17 005v2b) was just morphed today from a previous version I made recently of one of my newest pix. (If you'd like to see another version, click here for one I just put up on my dreams&poetry blog.) I've snapped pix of this tree on its little hill a few times now. Walking through this park (Anisqoyo, in Isla Vista) is often a somewhat dreamy experience. Ah, who'm I kidding? Anywhere I get caught up in picture taking, always leads to a rather dream-like experience. And what a blessing that is (just like writing poetry) to be away from my usual yammering state of mind.

HOW THE LIGHTNING SEES IT

"How the Lightning Sees It" (5-27-15 045v2c) was morphed yesterday from a going on two year old pic. Can you guess? I've already got several versions of this crop. And several of other crops of the same original photo. It's like eating potato chips or M&Ms, I just can't have one! As to this version, I like it's messiness and bright colors, and the shapes/lines. So I suppose I should admit I actually do feel good about it. Of course (you knew there had to be an "of course," smile) there is something in it I've tried adjusting. But wound up leaving it as is, as changing it in any way upset the pic's entire balance. Odd, isn't it, that something as visually messy as this does have its balance (at least to my eyes).

TARGET

"Target" (2-13-17 031v2) is a very new pic. That's a hawk on top of the pole. I knew when I snapped a bunch of pix it was highly unlikely I'd get a clear shot of it, given my little camera. But I've been surprised before (sometimes cropping in close works, but here, of course, it only made for a wonky pic). And it was fun just to watch the display and snap if anything got interesting. As when crows kept returning to dive bomb the hawk, which is why the title. None of the crow harassment pix came out worth anything. At least this one has some interesting compositional lines and shadows. Though I could really wish the focus were better. (Well, dummy, she says to herself, "Self, get on the stick already, and read the manual on your new camera so you can set it up! Maybe its focus will tend to be better.")
