PURPLE LIGHTS; & B & W SKETCH

The source pic for "Purple Lights" (6-17-13 006v4h) was unearthed during my on-going archiving/deleting project. As usual, it's only one of several morphs I now have. Quite honestly, though, I find I like another version at least as much and maybe even more -- "B & W Sketch" (6-17-13 006v4c) -- despite my love of purple:

THE FLOATING WORLD

"The Floating World" (7-3-13 006v6b) is the end result of some largely frustrated fudging with pix, including the source pic for this one. I'm only settling for posting "The Floating World" as I'm in a bit of a rush. (I got to my computer later than usual because I did some housework. So at least I feel virtuous about this time crunch. Smile.) However, I hasten to add there is also something about this version that appeals to me, compared to all the other photo work I did this morning. I think it's that sense of depth to it. As if one were looking out from behind a tangle of loose tree branches at the sky with a tree floating freely through it. I did try to slightly lighten the darkness of the surrounding shapes, using several different approaches. But none worked without also effecting other contrasts and/or details that I did not want to change at all. So I'll live with that slightly over done darkness.

FULL MOON DREAM; & CAVE OF THE LOTUS

Both "Full Moon Dream" (6-15-15 001v5) above, and "Cave of the Lotus" (6-15-15 001v3) below were clearly morphed from the same (rather new) original pic. In fact, they're color inverted versions of each other (after morphing the original first). Then some very minor painting out in each, depending on what became distracting in which version. Also, a tiny bit of color saturation in "Full Moon Dream," above. While the colors in "Cave of the Lotus" below, were not changed; they are the source pic's original colors and intensity:

I decided to post both for a change, rather than choose between them. Haven't done that in a while and it feels rather indulgent (smile).

FALLEN ANGEL

"Fallen Angel" (4-21-15 004v3h) is one of several versions of a relatively new pic. I even posted one of those others to my dreams & poetry blog today. I just so enjoy looking at these shapes. I've actually been waiting for my romance with the "polar coordinates" filter to be over. But I keep finding ways to further mess with its effect that I really like.

SOCK IT TO ME!

The source pic for "Sock It To Me!" is only a little over three months old. I've fussed at it regularly since first taking it. And just this morning settled (happily enough as pix go for me these days) on how it is now. Sure do wish we'd get some more soaking rains like this one was that wet this blossom. But all we here in Goleta (near Santa Barbara) have gotten is oppressively humid weather and clouds with a few sparse, fat rain drops. While both inland and southeast of us have gotten socked. Ah well, enough of the weather report. This original pic was heavily cropped and re-cropped many times. Each time going back to the full original. Then once a crop showed up that began to work, I struggled (can't recall how) to darken that background. (It was too obviously and boringly a grayish cement wall.) Then some color intensification, and mild sharpening to bring out the rain drops. And last, but not least because it's what made me feel OK about posting it, I painted out one rather small section that threw off the entire visual balance.

THE FIRE BELOW

"The Fire Below" (7-11-13 0052d1) ... well, yet again the source pic for it was dug up during my on-going deleting/archiving project. I fussed with it a few days ago and just now again. I'm in a rush or I'd probably fudge with it further (something about the composition is ever so slightly "off"). But I like it well enough to post as is. As to what I did to get it to this place from a small pale pink rose blossom? Clearly, a lot! Sometimes I just make a series of random choices for what filters, etc., to apply. Then organize the result more deliberately when it begins to appeal to me. That's what I did here.

SLOW BURN

Had a devil of a time naming "Slow Burn" (7-3-13 003v6b). The vast majority of the time a name pops just about the same time I feel the pic is finished, even a little bit sooner than that. This time what to call it was no where in sight. Not sure there's any particular reason for this, it's just unusual. Of course, now that I think on it the name I finally came up with may be a clue. But to this pic itself: not a whole lot done to it. Massive cropping (typical for my pix), a bit of fussing with color contrast/intensity, and a slight sharpening. Also cleaned out one tiny distraction. BTW, the original pic is another unearthed in my on-going archiving/deleting project. (Which project is coming along nicely, given the well over 10,000 pix I started out with. And then all the new versions I simply feel compelled to make as I go along. Smile.)
