CHASM; & SUN SALUTATION

The original shot for "Chasm" (7-5-14 015v4) above, was just taken today. I wasn't expecting to get any usable realistic pix as I was trying out new camera settings I discovered. I finally read through the entire manual for my Samsung and wanted to see how they effected the issues I've had with shots I've taken before. And voila! the "backlit" setting is very helpful. Though, of course, it didn't address some of the other problems with this particular shot. So I Photoshopped it to my heart's content. In this other version, "Sun Salutation" (7-5-14 015v5) below, you can see just what the pic was of (that tree really is that shape; years of pruning I'd guess):

Of the two of these, I much prefer "Chasm." In fact, I really only share "Sun Salutation" to give some idea of how far afield I went from the original shot in "Chasm." And with great glee, I'll add.

THE BRUISE (2); & THE RISING

"The Bruise (2)" (4-4-13 12420v3) above is cropped from a much larger photo. I had to keep cutting out some distracting section each time the rose filled more of the frame. That's just another way of saying I had a hard time balancing a crop of this interesting rose center. Then I went to the fun of trying out textures and colors and such on what was left. The below, "The Rising" (4-4-13 004v4), offers a contrasting take on the same photo:

PINKLING; & SHADOWING

"Pinkling" (4-4-13 12426v4) above, is (ready for it?) one of several versions of the same pic. And is one of the few pix I've posted in recent days with which I am rather content. Below is another version I rather like, "Shadowing" (4-4-13 12426v8):

I'm more often than not glad that I save old pix, no matter that what I was aiming for when taking them did not come out. These two resulted from cropping a section of leaves only, when I'd been drawn to a small rose bud that just did not work when I saw it on the screen.

GANESH DANCING; & DROUGHT DREAM WISH

As I'm rather fond of the elephant headed, four-armed Hindu deity Ganesh, I tend to see Him in lots of things. In shadows, in twisty trees, and so on. So it's no surprise that I see "Ganesh Dancing" (4-4-13 12413v15) in the above photo. And below is another photo from the same source pic, called "Drought Dream Wish" (4-4-13 12413v8):

It's also no surprise I'd come up with something to do with the drought as it's quite a presence in our lives here in beautiful but awfully dry California. (I hope it's a rain dance that Ganesh is doing, making all the green above into a reality!)

FEASTING ON THE LIGHT; CREATURES OF THE SUN; & THE EYES OF NIGHT

"Feasting on the Light" (4-4-13 12417v3) above, is an old photo. One I've held on to as I've not been quite able to "get it right." But yesterday when I came across it I took a shot and used a filter I really thought would do it harm if anything at all. And, voila!, I liked the results. Unfortunately, this has now encouraged me to try filters no matter what I think the results might be. And I wind up filling my pic folders with version after version of pix. (Yes, even more versions than usual.) For example the next two are versions abstracted from the above pic. (BTW, the two below have had a series of additional filters applied.) The first below is "Creatures of the Sun" (4-4-13 12417v5):

And last below is "The Eyes of Night" (4-4-13 12417v4):

BLACK & WHITE THINKING

And here I am, back to black and white ... I find myself trying it on almost every photo these days, just to see the possibilities. "Black & White Thinking" was not only leached of all color, but morphed in Photoshop by several filters. At one point I was haring off after it's resemblance to a human brain or to brain coral, trying to find an appropriate color or colors. But it simply works best in black and white. And that's that, much like black and white thinking. :-)

IMAGINE THIS! & GREEN GUMBO

"Imagine This!" (3-17-14 017v4) above, is from a fairly recent pic. It draws me since I so like the patterns of ferns and the fuchsia family of colors. Otherwise, it may not have much to recommend it. It's really just a flipped on its head color inversion of "Green Gumbo" (3-17-14 017v3) below, on which I had already done a lot of fussing. Maybe to a slightly more interesting end:
