CHRISTMAS AUDITION

"Christmas Audition" (3-21-15 020v3) is the gazillionth version I've made of the original source pic. (There's another one here, with today's post to my dreams&poetry blog.) I really like the color and crispness of this fern branch, against that vague background. I can't even remember all I did to it to get it this way. But I do recall (that few short days ago) being delighted when it popped up on my screen after some additional fudging I'd just tried out.

I GET MISTY

"I Get Misty" (3-31-15 017v4) is one of many new versions of a new photo. Love those ferns, don't I? And, yes, the title is straight from that old love song, "Misty." Not a whole lot of fussing with this pic, BTW. Reversal and adjustment of coloring, mild cropping, "find edges" function, and a little blurring (not necessarily in that order). This is one of those pix I think looks better in a larger version, so if you're so inclined, try clicking right on the pic.

SANSKRIT SCRAMBLE

"Sanskrit Scramble" (3-29-15 025v11b) is a new version of a new photo. (Need I even say it? There's a bunch of other versions of it, as well. And I've already posted a few of those.) It was very calming on an anxious day to fudge extensively with what eventually became "Sanskrit Scramble."

BTW, I did remember to take some pix yesterday afternoon to see how switching to the highest pixel count on my camera would effect photos. I didn't bother framing or even carefully selecting what to snap pix of. (I was sitting, chatting with friends and just wanted to get some shots quickly.) I varied between close and distance shots, and shots encompassing both near and far. There's a big difference in the quality of the pix I saw on my screen this morning. (The only real problem was the predictable one, given the bright sunlight on areas of most of them.) I'm now anxious to see how shots I carefully select and frame turn out.

A LIGHT IN THE DARK

Sigh, I just haven't the focus today to fuss with "A Light in the Dark" (3-29-15 009v2b) anymore than I already have. I wouldn't even post it but there's something so appealing to me about its single curving line against the dark. And even to post it I had to fuss at it a bit more because of that difference in appearance some photos have once posted here, than when seen in my other programs. BTW it was taken before I increased the picture size my camera takes (see yesterday's post for details). At a higher pixel count it would probably have been a crisper pic, given I cropped it out of a much larger scene. Then again, the very mild fuzziness may add to its mood.

EASTER MORN

"Easter Morn" (3-31-15 016v8) is a brand new morph of a brand new photo. Not much else to say about it, as it's obviously been heavily fudged with in Photoshop (and MS Picture Manager, I tend to work back and forth between the two programs on a pic).

Right now I'm a bit agog at something I've been coping with for some time. There was this change in the quality of pix I was taking, back a few months ago. Mostly in an inability to crop a pic down very far, which had not been the case for this camera ever since I got it about 5 years ago. And a loss of clarity overall. But I lived with these problems, figuring I just wasn't framing shots as well as I used to for some reason, or needed to thoroughly read the manual (ack!). Or maybe my cataracts were really becoming more obstructive than I'd thought. Or the camera was failing. Then today I just happened to notice the size of an original pic: way too small! Whenever did my camera get set for only 1024 X 768 pixels? I definitely don't recall ever setting it at that. I got this camera largely because I wanted a much bigger picture so I could crop it down (as is my overall wont) and not have it go wonky on me. So, of course, I immediately changed the setting on my camera to the largest size it takes (3,000+ X 2,000+ pixels). Hopefully, this will improve the results I see on my screen and how far down I'm able to crop. Of course, I'm getting an uneasy feeling that it's not as simple as this. That this higher pixel count may interfere with other settings. But I'll just have to cross that bridge if/when I come to it.

MAPPING OUT A FUTURE

Not sure about "Mapping Out A Future" (3-29-15 025v9), but am I ever certain about a pic. Except once in a great while, for a few brief minutes, when one pops on my screen and deeply surprises me with delight. Then I begin to see problems and I'm off either making more changes, or moving on to another version. And I've been working on the source photo for this one most of the morning so that it's now trailing the usual series of other versions. Most of which I kinda, sorta like, too. But I'll rest with this one as it does tickle me in some way I can't express that the others don't. [Here's one of those other versions just posted to my dreams&poetry blog.)

WALL FLOWERS

I'm posting "Wall Flowers" (3-29-15 033v2) more because I did almost nothing to it, than for any other reason. All I did was tilt it a wee bit (that window was a bit too askew), paint out a very tiny bit of distraction in one corner, and re-size it for posting. It feels good to have taken a pic that's just fine as is given all the post-production work I usually do. Ideally, I could wish for a more pleasing distribution of the roses. However one of the things I enjoy about the gardens on our grounds is that they don't look overly manicured. Cared for, yes, but left in between to their own devices. And this arrangement of blossoms reflects that for me.
