PETROGLYPH

"Petroglyph" is brand spanking new, a rose center pic taken and edited yesterday. It's probably one of those photos I should let cool for a few days. I often see something that needs adjusting in a pic after my enthusiasm has settled down a bit. The same thing happens with my poetry. But I'm not going to wait, so there! Not much really moves me in a positive way these days so I'm going along with whatever does. I think what gets me at the deepest level about this one is that echo of cave art and petroglyphs. The ancient past swirling up toward us when we view those paintings. (Well, I've never seen any "live," but have seen some amazing stills and movies.)

Given all that I do via computer that results in a photo like this one, maybe I should start calling the process "arted" as opposed to edited. :-) But seriously, for my exhibit on July 24th I had considered a category named "Photo-Based Computer Generated Art." That's a bit of a mouthful, but more accurate than calling my abstracts digital photos. Whaddaya think?

CENTRIFUGAL and THERE ONCE WAS TENDERNESS

"Centrifugal" is another fairly old pic from my "needs editing" folder. I just worked on it now to perk it up. Don't know if this is ultimately a good thing or a bad thing (or if it matters one hoot at all in the larger scheme of things), but I find more and more that I'm, well, bored by my older pix. Though I hasten to add that boredom is probably as much a reflection of how I'm feeling about my life in general, as an assessment of my older photos. OK, here's the un-edited version of the above pic:

So, whaddaya think? Now that I see them so near each other I'm glad I have the original version. It may have a tender appeal of its own; which comment prompts a title of "There Once Was Tenderness." Hm, together these two may make an interesting contrasting pair.

CIRCLE DANCE

"Circle Dance" is another old photo, recently re-edited. I myself don't feel much like dancing right now, at least not physically. Just got back from an exercise class and even my hands are tired. All to the good, though. Especially getting all that fresh blood to my brain ... so I can continue to edit the masses of pix in my "needs editing" category. :-)

What tickles me about this particular photo is those little seeds. They look so perky, animated even.

THE FORTUNE TELLER

OK, I have no objectivity on this one whatsoever. I've been hooked on the bright colors and contrasts from the first and that has not changed in over two years since taking this shot. It was taken at The French Festival here in Santa Barbara in July of 2009. Sadly, there may not be anymore French Festivals; there wasn't one this year. But maybe someone will start it up again.

Here's a pic from that 2009 Festival that I clearly did not take -- that's me getting ready to lower the blade on my friend for daring to prefer drinking diet coke to being with me:

Earlier, he'd also dared to indicate his lack of interest in the fortune telling table. But I hasten to add, he waited patiently as I got a rather predictable (if you'll pardon the awful pun) but still rather charming and entertaining reading for myself.

STANDING TALL and WOLF MOON

I usually find myself madly snapping pix of this view when there's a full moon in that narrow space between that tall slim "chimney" on the left and the large building on the right. When I took this one almost a year ago, I was drawn by the clouds and sky color. But I never tire of looking at this scene. Which is good as I see it at least twice a day, going to and from the elevator.

And here's one of those full moon shots, called "Wolf Moon" (one of the names for the huge full moon at year's end):

Omigosh! I just checked to see what phase the moon is in now. It just came in full yesterday. And I never even noticed. That's rather unusual, to say the least. However, looking back at my deepened mood swings the past week there were some large clues there. And my unconscious certainly tossed up a clue in drawing me to these pix today. :-)

But back to these photos. It would be wonderful if someday I could afford a better camera (and maybe with a tripod for decent night shots). It would help a great deal with these sorts of sky and landscape pix. But I keep trying with my little Samsung and have a fun time as I do.

ICING ON THE CAKE

One of those days. Nothing pleases me, in any area of my life. I've been wandering around my pix feeling lost and grumpy. Finally decided that the next one I clicked on, I'd post. And here it is. This is a very old one, that I do remember sort of liking at some time or other. I do find the endless array of ways in which roses arrange their petal unfolding rather intriguing. Even today.

DO NOT PICK OFF ...

With the 10th year anniversary of the felling of the Twin Towers in New York city being observed today, I'm acutely feeling the fragility of life. (Especially as I was a life-long resident of New York city at the time the Towers were crashed; I just moved here to California in 2008.) This photo has always brought to mind how fragile and short life is. Even should no one have picked that gorgeous cactus bloom in Shorty's garden, it would not have lasted at peak another full day anyway.

BTW, the sign says "Do No Pick Off / Means You / Please." We have some folk who seem to feel our blossoms are for their private enjoyment. One woman recently used a photo I'd taken of her stolen bloom to make a "Missing..." sign.

Again I'm reminded of 9-11 and all the missing signs with photos of loved ones, posted around the Ground Zero area afterwards, and of so much more. Also about how much has changed in our world since then, and how little. I wish I could think of something positive and uplifting to say with which to close this post. I recall worrying about what the long term effects would be to rescuers from all the chemicals and debris dust in the air, which has since turned out to be a problem for some. Today I can only hope that they are being properly cared for and compensated. And that those who lost loved ones that day have healed.
