EARLY CHRISTMAS GIFT

Another Christmas rose (see previous post), this one taken 12-8-15, so it was truly an "Early Christmas Gift" (12-8-15 002v3a) from nature. These particular roses have such distinctive ways of unfolding at their centers. Shots I've posted here of new and years old pix have almost the identical arrangement. Guess that makes sense, given gene theory (smile). BTW, I did very little to this pic. Just a big cropping (as usual, had to take it a distance away), slight darkening of the midtones, and a wee bit of sharpening and diffusing. Oh, and painting out a few very small distracting spots.

CHRISTMAS ROSE

"Christmas Rose" (10-3-09 7272v3) is from a very old photo, just morphed this morning. As usual, I have other old versions but this is the first that I did not morph the total behoositz out of, and actually like. Also as usual, there are little things I'm not so happy with, but overall, it's an OK pic (IMHO). As are the six other versions I made today. Six, you say? Not unusual with my tendency to think "but what if I try ...?" Oy! I may actually like a couple of those six others more. So here's one of them, "Rose Garden Memory" (10-3-09 7272v7):

REFLECTING ON THE NIGHT

"Reflecting on the Night" (5-1-13 12637v4) was just morphed this morning from an old version of an even older pic. Nothing much else to add except that it might look familiar as I've posted other versions fairly recently. It's one of those pix with shapes and shadows that keep catching my curiosity about what can be done with them, whenever I stumble across the original pic or its many "offspring." (I may have mentioned this here before, but I sometimes wonder if that "catching" isn't a more a matter of unconscious memory of the time in which I took the photo. Some of the old folders evoke clear feelings about my life at the time when I took them, others just a whiff.)

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

The roses in "Christmas Lights" (12-24-13 006v2) were actually Christmas roses, as I took the pic on Christmas Eve in 2013. I've others shots I took that day of several of these roses that I've posted since that eve. I liked this one but somehow never got around to fixing up it's little problems before today, on the way to Christmas again (some painting out of distracting bits and adjusting the crop). It wasn't a night shot. I decreased the midtones to drop out most of the background detail and color. I also fussed at the colors somewhat, to bring out that lovely yellow. And applied the diffuse filter, then sharpened it. BTW, we didn't get as many of any of our usual late fall roses this year (due to the drought, and lack of proper care as well, I hear). So I'm doubly grateful to have pix such as this one.

DEW CUP

"Dew Cup" (4-3-14 016v3a) is from a folder I've been working in for a few days now. One I'd already filled with versions of this particular rose recently. And even posted a version or two here, if I recall. I'm not completely content with this new version that I worked up today. But I've been morphing pix for a while and have other computer work to get to that's calling (a possible new tarot post, for one). So I share from this cup and hope it's enjoyable.

READING GAIA'S AURA

"Reading Gaia's Aura" (5-25-09 1729v5) was just morphed today from one of my oldest pix. I actually posted an earlier version with a whole different focus (both literally and metaphorically speaking) just now but was not happy with it. So went back and changed my approach, winding up with this one that I like quite a bit more.

BENDING OVER BACKWARDS

"Bending Over Backwards" (5-31-09 1786v3) is from one of my oldest photos (five and a half years old). The source photo is full of problems but for some reason I'm very attached to it and have kept it through all the winnowing I've done over those years. Since it was taken with a very low pixel count capacity camera (the first I ever used) as I worked on it today it went wonky readily. I did try to keep it realistic, but could not due to it's easy wonkiness. And although I'm OK with these abstract results, I still wish I could rescue the original realistic pic. Of course, I keep justifying this sort of hoarding of pix by thinking my skills may advance enough in the future to save more of my problematic photos. However, given the thousands of pix I have on my computer, I'm hardly in need of this sort of saving. Sigh, who has trouble just letting go of things when they simply don't work? Could it be moi?
