SKETCH FROM MEMORY

"Sketch from Memory" (11-6-15 010v2a) was just morphed from an old pic that's been worked on some through the years. I've always sort of liked it but (as usual) had problems with it. So I decided to let go of having to fix it up as a realistic pic and took it where it is now. And at least for now, I'm content with it. And it still has the feeling the more realistic version gives me, without the visual balance problems.

DAWN BREAKS

"Dawn Breaks" (11-26-14 013v4a) was morphed a couple days ago from an old version of an even older pic. What to say about it except that I hope the word "breaks" in the usually cliche title gets read as I intend it based on the dark feel of the pic: as "fractures" or "falls apart."

TATTERED BELLE

"Tattered Belle" (12-7-14 019v3) was further morphed yesterday from a really old version of an even older pic. It's one of several versions and I just barely decided this was the one I like best. I've always been drawn to dying blossoms but rarely get pix of them I can do anything really interesting with. But this one has such suggestive shapes and lines that I've had fun over the years working with it. And now finally posting one of the results. At least I think this is the first of them I've put up here. The initial versions were all made before I started indicating in the photo's on-system name where it's been used.

A KISS FROM AQUA

"A Kiss from Aqua" (11-8-16 003v2a) was just fudged from a brand new pic. The several shots I took of this blue glow agave were the only ones I took on my long walk yesterday. Although there were a few things that drew my interest, none compelled me to stop and pull out my camera but this plant. I have a nice straight forward shot, but the fussing better reflects how looking at it made me feel. And let me stress, although I altered the color very slightly, this plant really does "glow blue." BTW, I actually had no idea what this fabulous "face" was called so I used a google function I'm growing very fond of: searching by loading an image. Not only do I get to find out the name of a plant, but to see other intriguing flora and some terrific photos. What fun!

STILL STANDING TALL

"Still Standing Tall" (10-27-16 028v2b) was just now fussed out of a rather new pic (same batch as yesterday's photo, maybe even the same tree). I'm having quite a love affair with these old eucalyptus trees. I didn't take any pix of them as I passed under them today, but I kept stopping to appreciate them. A couple of UCSB students were rather amused at me standing there holding my walker as I looked straight up at their wonderful variety of branches and shadows. Maybe living so near them as the students do they've gotten accustomed to them. However, I can't imagine ever becoming inured to what these trees offer. Especially as it changes all the time, depending on time of day and season, and as they've aged (right along with me over the 9 years I've been here in CA).

AUTUMN ALTAR

"Autumn Altar" (10-27-16 015v2) was just now fussed from a rather new pic. Love these sorts of tree roots. I took slews of pix of them that day from various angles, on several different trees. They're more than usually challenging shots to take, given their location. Especially as I can't get back away from them to take in the full spread of the roots. (Fencing in back of me.) And what with cars pulling up to the curb and/or passing by, well, suffice it to say they're fun challenges to take on.

JUST PASSING THROUGH

"Just Passing Through" (10-30-16 002v2) was just now fussed from a very new pic. All I did was crop it into a "panoramic" view, rotate it a bit to get it more level, and increase the color contrast. I upped the color contrast for the dramatic effect; it really brings out that contrail and those clouds below it. It even makes the Channel Islands (on the right half of the horizon) a bit more visible and brings out the sparkles on the sea. Much of the detail is lost in the above regular blogger view, so try clicking on the pic.
