FALL HANGS ON

"Fall Hangs On" (1-14-17 003v2) ... don't say I didn't warn you, it's of that same tree of which I said yesterday I'd probably be posting more pix, sans most of its bright yellow leaves. I just spent a great deal of time fussing at a different crop of a slightly different shot of this tree. Came up with some nice surreal pix. But what I really wanted was to share a more straight forward shot. To try to get across what I saw yesterday as I left the I.V. Market. It stopped me short, even though I'd already seen it and decided to snap pix of it on the way out. But the clouds and/or sun had changed just enough for it to be even more enticing as I exited. So I've left the more surreal pix for posting some other time (or for use on my dreams&poetry blog) and went to work on this one. Which it turns out didn't require a whole lot of fussing. I have a minor quibble with the crop, but any other way I tried cropping it just reduced the visual impact of the light coming through those few remaining yellow/orange leaves.

UPLIFTING

"Uplifting" (1-9-17 002v9) was morphed yesterday from that same photo I've posted several versions of recently. (And a "heads up," I took more pix of it earlier today, sans most of those leaves, so there may be more pix of this tree in the offing.) I particularly like the vaguely pointillist and water color effect this one wound up having. Couldn't tell you how I got such effects. There are many paths in Photoshop that wind up pretty much in the same place. And sometimes, to my great amusement, I find that I've just applied a slew of filters to get somewhere, and there's one filter that does the trick all by itself! But, hey, I sure have fun and learn a lot along those less direct paths.

ALL PLAYED OUT

"All Played Out" (12-15-16 021v2g) was just morphed (with a couple other versions, as well) from a photo I posted here not long ago. A pic of those fabulous tree roots that have, in all these versions, become totally abstract. The roots just keep on tickling my imagination even when they no longer resemble roots at all. Click here to view one of those newest versions that I posted to my dreams&poetry blog this morning. And if you'd like to see the detail in "All Played Out" just click on the image.

FISHING FOR THE MEMORY

"Fishing for the Memory" (1-9-17 002v4) was just morphed from a very new pic. The same new pic I've been posting versions of here and on my dreams&poetry blog. Yeah, it's one of those that's hooked me (to stick with that fishing metaphor) and won't let go. As often happens with a pic, each time I view it something new grabs me and I'm off to fuss at it further. Or I think of something else I might try on its lines and shapes, as with these tree branches that just keep reaching out. BTW, there's some detail in this one that is best viewed in a larger version. So, if you're interested, just click on the image.

LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT

"Lighting Up the Night" (12-9-16 019v2g) is a rather new pic, just now fudged into this form. Not much I can add except that it was a day shot, of course. The source pic is OK, but nothing to "write home about." Not that this version is, either. I just like it most of the several versions I made this morning. (I'm really beginning to feel the need for a new camera. The one I've been working with [Fuji Film] has a focus issue. Well, so did my old Samsung, but I'd gotten used to its ways. I haven't been able to with my Fuji Film. Then add that it has a wide angle lens and I'm really not very content with the pix I get. However, when am I ever? BTW, I know it's mostly due to my resistance not only to re-reading the camera manual, but then actually applying what I've read. As I've said here often, I just want to take the pix! I don't want to be fussing with settings. Yeah, seems strange and self-defeating, but that's how it is.)

THINKING OF YELLOW; & EXPLORING THE NIGHT

"Thinking of Yellow" (1-9-17 002v2) is a brand new pic, one of several shots I took of this tree. Nothing much else to say accept that (as usual) I'm not as jazzed about it as I was when I first saw it on my screen. The colors/contrasts were hard to get right, no matter how I fussed. I do like the crop, however. Here's another version of this same pic that I actually like more, called "Exploring the Night":

MAKING ROOM FOR TOMORROW

"Making Room for Tomorrow" (6-22-09 2656v6b) was just morphed from (need I even say it? :-D) an old version of one of my oldest pix. It's another of those that probably only its mother could like, and I do. Anyone who's ever pushed the limits of editing a photo in Photoshop will probably recognize some of what happens when a pic begins to degrade. I've left those little dots that were initially tiny boxes (pixels "outed" by over-editing), then blurred and did some other stuff to soften and make them show up more randomly, so they'd look as if the effect was intended...or so I'd like to think that's how they now appear. I also used the comic filter which introduced those lovely hairy lines, and did several color inversions/re-inversions and subsequent color changes. In other words, had great fun messing endlessly with this pic.
