HEART OF THE STAG

"Nu?" as they say in yiddish, which is my response to what I'm about to type here. I.e., I've already made several versions of the source photo for today's "Heart of the Stag" (2-7-15 019v7). Which is actually saying a bit more than it does usually. As I had to go through a great deal of trouble and wandering around my rooms to even get this (and its fellow folder companion pix) onto my computer. I'd forgotten yesterday to put my chip back in the camera so these pix were on the camera's storage. "No biggie" one might be inclined to think. However, I've never used the cable that directly connects the camera (as opposed to chip) stored pix to my computer for up-loading. In fact, I couldn't even find it and wasn't sure I'd had one. (But, you say, how've you been getting pix onto your computer all this time then? I have a little USB transfer device into which I put the camera chip. Also, couldn't figure out a way to get the camera stored pix on to the chip. And was in no mood for reading the manual.) I looked high and low and everywhere in between, logical or not, for that maybe even non-existant, Samsung cable. I even tried using the cable that came with my Fujifilm camera, but it just didn't quite fit the Samsung. Then I remembered a huge box of miscellaneous cables and wires and many an old mouse and such that I keep just for this sort of "emergency" situation. And, lo and behold, there was a little USB cable that not only fit the Samsung, but worked! I don't think it's the one that must have come with the Samsung because it's grey (the camera is black) and it just doesn't strike a memory chord. But, hey, it worked. Which vastly improved my rainy day mood and achy joints. (Seriously, all that walking around and reaching and lifting helped the physical aches and pains.)

As to "Heart of the Stag" -- staghorn ferns are another of the many of my favorite growing things around here. This one's clearly been heavily Photoshopped and puts me in mind of an old print of some sort.

AURA OF THE ROSE

"Aura of the Rose" (1-7-15 005v3b) was just morphed today from a recent pic. A lot of fussing in Photoshop, with color work in both Photoshop and MS Picture Manager. It started going digital wonky on me but I'd already found a color combo and intensity I liked, so I tried out various Photoshop blur functions to see if I could rescue it. And I think I did ... maybe even improving it a bit. Once satisfactorily blurred (to my eye) it put me in mind of how auras are described by those who see them clearly (as opposed to intuiting them).

MIDNIGHT LIGHTS; & MOUNTAIN SUNSET

There's a feeling I get when looking at this distant mountain view from an overpass above our community's front gate, late at night, with the frogs croaking (and only an occasional car passing), the air chilly (even in summer), and no one else around me. "Midnight Lights" (2-3-15 001v5a) almost captures it (at least for me). I've made many versions of this pic (changes in texture and especially in color combinations, as well as crops). I keep trying to reclaim it from a persistent issue or two of distracting areas within it. And I also came close to succeeding there with "Midnight Lights."

And here's one of those other versions, "Mountain Sunset" (2-3-15 001v7), which shows the distractions I tried to compensate for or crop out in other versions. I do, however, like the colors in "Mountain Sunset." BTW, it's one of those pix I think looks a bit better in a larger view, so try clicking on it if you'd like --

FERNTASIA

"Ferntasia" (12-23-14 011v2) was just morphed today from a recent photo. Wish I had a nickel for every time I've said here (and elsewhere) how much I enjoy looking at and taking pix of ferns. All those lovely patterns and curves. So what then do I also enjoy? Morphing them all out of shape and sometimes even beyond recognition. Go figure what amuses this old lady.

THE NARROWING VIEW

I have a bunch of complaints about "The Narrowing View" (1-28-15 007v2) and all the other pics of different subjects and in different styles that I've worked on so far today. Also, I'm grumpy about what's going on in this photo, that construction that will eventually heavily block this view, which is already view-challenged by pole and trees. So one might wonder why post a photo at all today? Because I'm compulsive, I guess. Or maybe I just want to show that I work every day at my pix. Maybe both. Or maybe I just want a soap box ... or to use a less dated expression, platform, from which to complain.

LAST LIGHT

"Last Light" (1-28-15 008v5) was just morphed today from a very new pic. And here's a more realistic version on my dreams & poetry blog. I've still not gotten the kind of shot of this little corner garden I want. Looking at it from above is such a delight but a difficult shot to get, especially given the poor lighting it usually has (and how busy it is with plants, rocks, and other objects). This time, though, those swaths of sunlight gave me hope for "the" shot. Not so, but this morphing and the one on my dreams & poetry blog are satisfying nevertheless.

ONLY MOTH DUST

"Only Moth Dust" (11-14-14 026v2b) is a brand new morph of a fairly recent photo. There's a whole series of filters layered here, plus color inversions and re-inversions, color changes, cropping and further cropping, etc., etc. (However, I didn't do any distorting of shapes. Those are as they were in the original pic.) I'm surprised it didn't turn to digital dust right before my eyes. But am glad it didn't as I like where it is now.
