MUSIC AT SUNSET

"Music at Sunset" was in my 7-24 exhibit. I had a craving to see a red rose today so scrolled through my flower pix category til this one popped up. It was taken exactly two years ago in our memorial rose garden. I'd never seen a rose quite like this before, nor have I since. I'm not at all certain about the title for this photo, though. I kept coming up with other cliche names like "Heart Music" or "You Make My Heart Sing." Yet I suppose I need not always avoid cliches. They become so precisely because they ring so true.

‘til next time, keep dreaming,

AFTER SALVADOR DALI

OK, maybe I should just give up on "After Salvador Dali," one of the first pix I took with an eye to "art" almost 2-1/2 years ago. I started reading a collection of surreal poetry yesterday and was reminded of it and also, of course, of my vague dis-satisfaction with it. So I've edited it yet again. It's pixel count is way low, making much cropping problematic. (It was taken before I knew about increasing the size of photos the camera takes.) I'll probably drag it out again at some future date and fuss some more with it. Hey, I'm nothing if not stubborn. :-)

DOUBLE TROUBLE, and SPEAKING OF ROMANCE

"Double Trouble" is the sort of photo that does give me double the difficulty. First, it was indoors -- my camera doesn't take to indoors very well, with or without flash, enhanced or not by daylight through windows. And second, a bright white object. But I lucked out with this one above. I took a few (unsuccessful) shots with the flash. Then I turned it off and relied on the bright light coming through the windows and glass doors. Must have been just the right amount of light or maybe the deities of "light writing" were with me that day. :-)

And here's another take on this same vase chock full of callas. In this instance, I think it being ever so slightly hazy works for the overall feel of the photo, titled "Speaking of Romance":

THE SENTINEL, MARSHMALLOW RIPPLE, WAVE BYE-BYE, and GATHERING OF THE CLANS

This first of today's shots is titled "Sentinel." If I continue with this interest in landscapes and skies I may be forced to figure out how to afford a better camera. And also (sigh) to become more proficient technically. Especially with how to deal with field of focus and bright light. We'll see. I'm having a lot of fun even with this little camera and my limited tech knowledge.

These three pix today were taken outside IN & OUT burgers and in a VONS parking lot late yesterday afternoon. As my friend drove us around I kept ooohing and aahhhing about the great cloud formations in the sky. Of course, out came my camera as soon as we were parked.

Here's "Marshmallow Ripple":

And here's "Wave Bye-Bye":

This last is "Gathering of the Clans":

THE STORM LIFTS, DUSTING OFF THE DAY and STIRRING THE POT

The first above is "The Storm Lifts." All three of the photos posted today were taken the winter before last outside the Elephant Bar Restaurant. I don't even know how many times I've cropped and re-cropped these pix. Each one has so many different ways they could be presented, emphasizing different sections of the wider view. (To my disappointment, none work as the full landscape scenes I took.)

Here's "Dusting Off the Day":

And here's "Stirring the Pot":

Not only composition issues have troubled me with this pic series, but focus. And that's a oombination of my lack of tech knowledge and the limits of my inexpensive camera. However, at least for my own purposes I feel I've caught something of that amazing sky that evening. BTW, I did not manipulate the color in any of these. This is how the sky was.

AFTER ESCHER

"After Escher" was in my 7-24 exhibit. It's been one of my personal faves from the first time I saw it on my computer and was dumbfounded. It had been an almost "throw away," last second shot of stairs outside the building I live in. I was fairly certain all those angles just would not work visually. Well, according to my eye and the eyes of many viewers, I was quite wrong.

It was also one of those photos for which a title just jumped out at me. A fellow resident was quite amused by it. She said that her first weeks here had been a bit like living in an Escher print. With the several different sized and shaped buildings, various inside and outside staircases, and connecting overpasses, and courtyards and gardens, I totally agree. It took me over two weeks to find my way around without asking someone for directions.

In any event, this has proved to be a popular photo; one that I also like. It's taught me to follow those last minute urges to snap a pic. One never knows!

MAGIC WAND and DARK MEMORIES

"Magic Wand" was in my July 24th exhibit. This is one of the first sights one sees on coming inside the front gate of the retirement community where I live. I've taken many pix of it in various lights and seasons. I especially love that tree, the curve of that heavily pruned limb. Maybe someday I'll write a poem about the magic of its graceful survival. (I've mentioned here before how residents maintain various sections of our grounds' gardens. The one beneath this tree is Benny's gift to us.)

Here's an entirely different take on that tree, titled "Dark Memories":
