SWORD DANCE

"Sword Dance" (9-5-14 004v12) is another of my Ganesh figurines. He's actually made of brass and was a gift from someone just because he'd heard I like Ganapati (another of His names). That sword is my letter opener and His regular spot is next to my recliner where I read my mail. I got that letter opener years before this Ganesh; it's a fanciful Excalibur. Seriously, it has that name running down one side. When I was trying to decide where to keep this Ganapati I realized Excalibur would fit just right in His grip. How's that for a mixing of mythologies. Though somehow they fit together.

The Ganesh Chaturthi festival is almost over. I'm going to miss observing it.

MEDITATING GANESH

"Meditating Ganesh" (9-4-14 009v4) was just fudged from a pic of one of my figurines yesterday. He's got only two arms, which is rather unusual for Ganesh, though I gather modern ones do sometimes. Four arms are the usual, though many more are not unheard of. As for my figurines and images, other than this one, they all have four. I just realized that the vast majority of Ganeshes in my home were gifts. His first appearances in my life, those many years ago, were also (consciously) unbidden. Gifts from the universe in the form of a series of synchronicities for which I was and am grateful. BTW, it's now the eighth day of the ten day Ganesh Chaturthi festival. In the beginning I was worried I'd not have enough pix of Him of my own to post here as part of the celebration. Now, I have more than enough and had a hard time choosing which to post today.

MAKING MERRY

"Making Merry" (8-31-14 004v4) is one of the Ganesh figurines on the small altar I set up to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi (for info click here). Today's the seventh of the 10 days of the festival (this year 8-29 to 9-8). As I've said here before, although neither Hindu nor observing any other particular spiritual tradition, I am very fond of Ganesh.

GANESH GATHERING FLOWERS

The original for "Ganesh Gathering Flowers" (3-21-10 10049ev5) is of the same tree (different angle) I posted a pic of on the first day of the 10 day Ganesh Chaturthi festival (this year 8-29 to 9-8). Who knows? Maybe some day The Remover of Obstacles, Ganesh, will have cleared my way to taking the long walk to get some fresh shots of this wonderful tree. :-) In the meantime I continue to find new ways to morph the old pix of it I do have.

PLAYTIME FOR GANESH

"Playtime for Ganesh" (8-10-14 005v4) is of a figurine in our gardens that I pass everyday and especially enjoy. Though not Ganesh exactly, it's close enough for me! I googled to see if I could find a particular baby Ganesh figurine I've wanted to get for some time, hoping I could post an image of it here also, but did not find it. If you'd ever like to have some sweet fun, google for "baby ganesh images." Ganesh crawling, or lying on His tummy with his diapered butt in the air? Adorable and adore-able (if one is so inclined). BTW, Ganesh Chaturthi (see previous post) is now in it's fifth of ten days of celebration (this year 8-29 to 9-8).

GANESH BLOWS IT ALL AWAY

"Ganesh Blows It All Away" (7-19-14 001v24a) has been waiting in its folder for weeks for Ganesh Chaturthi to arrive. That's the festival -- this year from 8-29 to 9-8 -- during which the Hindu elephant headed deity's birth is celebrated. I've been observing it for many years, but this is the first time I've been posting photos in His honor. Now back to today's photo. What I see in it and am referencing in the pic name, is one of Ganesh's main titles: Remover of Obstacles.

AFTER THE SHAMAN OF TROIS FRERES

"After The Shaman of Trois Freres" (7-23-09 4124v3) was morphed yesterday out of the same original photo from which I fussed yesterday's pic "Ganesh Emergent." But it's shapes too strongly put me in mind of the cave painting of the title to be used for a post on Ganesh (the elephant headed Hindu deity). This titular Shaman is a combo of human and animal attributes and, as I said of Ganesh yesterday, such an image can represent a link to our unconscious. In dream interpretation animals are often said to be guides to/from our less conscious selves. And a figure with both human and animal attributes would seem to indicate ready passage between both worlds, a mediator.
