SWINGING INTO SPRING

This very new pic "Swinging Into Spring" (3-2-15 015v2) is truly no great shakes. But it is one of my favorite views. It's a difficult shot, not only obviously due to perspective and slanting sidewalks, but to all sorts of variety in light. There's also a lamp with a large white globe on the left that had to be cropped out as it was too distracting. Not to mention I (and/or my camera?) am not very good at distance shots. Nevertheless, at least it captures the sense I got that day of spring being here already. And to enjoy it while I can because I think we're going to have an early and rather hot summer. Heck, the weather we've been having on and off for a of couple days now has been more summery in terms of temperature than spring-like. Dought? Global warming? Both? Neither? Only time will tell. In the meantime, I'll enjoy snapping pix. Good, bad, and otherwise. (BTW, I did try cropping out that large swing on the bottom as that leaves a lot of interesting greenery, etc. However, it starts to go wonky as the pic was already heavily cropped. And even as posted here the focus isn't all that good.)

INCORPORATION

The original pic for "Incorporation" (8-23-09 5998v7d) was rediscovered recently in my on-going archiving/deleting work. I morphed several other versions out of it this morning before finally deciding to post this one. Even though it's one of those sorts of pix that I have rather mixed feelings about. And yet, and yet ....

COALESCENT

"Coalescent" (12-11-12 12264v3) was morphed this morning from an old photo I found opening folder after folder at random, wondering what I might stumble across. I used a function here for the first time, "crystallize." It's effect is pretty much the same as "stained glass," but not quite as, um, regimented or overly defined would be about the best I can describe the difference. Of course, I applied crystallize on top of many previous edits. I should give it a go sometime on a pretty much un-fussed with pic and see what it's effects are like.

SANSKRIT DIG

"Sanskrit Dig" (8-26-10 10002ev9) was just morphed from a very old pic I stumbled across trying to find something for my dreams & poetry blog post this morning. Digging into my oldest folders of photos is sometimes like fumbling through piles of sanskrit writing. Many of the pix do feel that far from my understanding. I always recall taking them, sometimes in great detail. But what was their meaning back then? True (as I have been doing) I can torture a whole new language out of them now. Yet what did they originally speak about? Ah well, for all my questions, I enjoy the editing/morphing process itself no matter what language it speaks. And whether I understand it or not.

MYTHOLOGEM

The original for "Mythologem" (12-8-09 8549ev3) is another of those re-discovered in my on-going archiving/deleting work. I'd worked on a different pic altogether this morning which was also in a bright spectrum of colors but ultimately it didn't pan out. Guess I just wasn't ready today, however, to give up on these sorts of stirring colors.

PROJECTIONS

"Projections" (3-2-15 10985e2) was found in my on-going archiving/deleting work, and cleaned up today. I.e., no cropping, but some painting out of dark spots that were distracting and a wee bit of sharpening and color saturation. Also, (will wonders never cease!) I've already heavily morphed another three versions today that I kinda, sorta like, too. Will leave them to review and finalize some other day.

OCTOBER STROLL

"October Stroll" (10-4-14 014v3) was just fixed up a bit from an original I rediscovered wandering around my folders, bored and discouraged. I'd done a lot of morphing this morning and not come up with much of anything that was satisfying, or even just passable. When I opened the folder the original for today's pic is in I was surprised to note pix I'd not worked on much, as I recall because I'd found them not very compelling. Well, I'd still say these pix of my afternoon stroll behind some of the buildings on our grounds aren't compelling. But they are evocative now. I may even take a walk here again soon. It's a nice short stroll that I tend to forget is available. Back to this pic, for once I did very little to it. It's not at all cropped (which is probably the single most unusual thing for me to say about a pic of mine) and only very slightly color saturated. I then applied the poster edges filter to clarify things a bit. With those changes from deep shadow all the way to brilliant sunlight things needed it. Usually I find the poster edges filter a bit too "cartoony." But I've usually tried it on pix that have been cropped way down in size and in this case it was applied to a much larger pic. Therefore the effect of it is more subtle. [Note on seeing this pic on blogger: Sigh, as happens here more often than I'd like, now that I've seen it posted to blogger, it looks a bit different from how it appears in MS Picture Manager and Photoshop. The poster edges filter effect is somewhat more apparent. I don't have time or I'd post the pre-poster edges version instead.]
