EVEN ROSES PREVARICATE

"Even Roses Prevaricate" (5-1-13 12677ev2a[2]) is a brand new version of a very old version of an even older pic. Didn't use GIMP on it (still don't know enough about that program) but had some fun in Windows 10's Photos program. I didn't change a lot but it's still interesting to me (even after all the years I've been doing this) how small changes in colors, contrast, and focus can so change a picture's impact/impression.

SEEDS OF A NEW DAY

"Seeds of a New Day" (2-21-19 [21]) was just fussed out of an old photo of mine using (wait for it ... wait for it ... :-D) my new pic editing program, GIMP! Yep, after saying here yesterday I wasn't ready yet to go through downloading and coping with a (much needed) pic editing program, I got GIMP. And as I'd known would happen, I had quite a time of it. GIMP instructions were not clear and then as I've been saying here, Windows 10's "reasoning" (if you will) still alludes me. But I finally located the GIMP start file. And from there had a lot of fun trying to figure out GIMP's "reasoning." I keep reminding myself it was a gradual process getting to know the little of Photoshop that I eventually learned. As to today's photo? I improved on color contrasts, and added that mosaic effect. I'm really only sharing it today as proof I've finally bitten the bullet and gotten a good editor. I did try a lot of other things to see what I could accomplish. Much of which I'd get half way through and then not be able to finish the effect. (E.g., using the lasso function -- GIMP calls it something else -- to change only one color in the lassoed area. For instance, I tried both lightening and changing the shade of the darkness on the left and upper right, but could only change all the color in any area I lassoed. For some reason, I couldn't get the "select" a color function to work right.) But at least I'm beginning to locate the various functions and filters, etc., if not use them fully yet. And, hey, GIMP doesn't cost a penny!

TIME CAPSULE

"Time Capsule" (11-17-17 013v5[2]) is from a relatively new pic (especially compared to how old most of those I've been posting for some time now are). In fact, I could call it brand new as I fussed at it a bit in the Photos editing program of my new computer just now. Can't do very much with that program, but I did manage to make the contrasts stand out a bit more -- which clarified the dark "tree" part -- and to re-crop it a tiny bit at the edges. It's quite delightful to have access again to all my pix (old and new, previously posted and not). Now to get a decent photo editing program. I'm dawdling on that as given my experience with Windows 10 (et al) there will almost certainly be some sort of big hitch I'll have to wrestle with to figure out. And right now this (not feeling very well) old woman just hasn't got the get up and zip. Not to mention I'd simply like to enjoy unchallenged access to my pix for a bit.

ROUNDING IT ALL OUT

"Rounding It All Out" (archival old dox 5-25-09 1729v7) has not been posted before on this or my dreams&poetry blog (at least as far as I can tell -- it's very old pic, from 2009). And since I found it in one of my archival files, which is where I put things I've taken out of my on-going pic folders, it's unlikely this is a repost. Guess it doesn't really matter anyway. Except that, once again, I'm surprised to see how my reaction to a pic can change over time. Pix wind up in an old dox/archival file because I feel they have serious problems but I'm not quite ready to give up on them. (Or they are for historical records only, as of people who've passed away.) Yet, when this popped on my screen I had a very favorable response to it. Go figure. BTW, my archival files used to reside only on an external back up drive. But my new computer's thrown all of the ways I organize things into a muddle. And my archival files are -- at least for now -- on this computer. I'm finding this transition process to Windows 10 endlessly frustrating, as may be clear from some of my comments here recently. Especially as just when I think I've got the filing system understood, it throws some other problem in my face. ("OneDrive" and "This PC"? Give me a break!) Never was much of a tech head, must less now as the aging of my mind (and body) makes itself known to me almost daily.
