PASSION; & CONTEMPLATION

"Passion" (3-21-10 1004v10) above and "Contemplation" (3-21-10 10044v9) below, are clearly from the same very old photo.

I had a very hard time today finding any photo at all that I felt like posting, determined not to fuss and create new versions. I have lists of pix ready for posting for just such moods as this, however, not one I looked at suited me. So I wound up fussing anyway at an old picture, creating these two today. As usual when each showed up on my screen I was delighted. But quickly found enthusiasm waning as my critical eye took over. However, I do still like them or they'd not be up.

CHERRY TREE; THE DREAMING TREE

"Cherry Tree" (7-8-14 001v20) above, is from the pic I posted versions of here on July 8 & 9. As is "The Dreaming Tree" (7-8-14 001v21) below:

What can I say? I've been having great fun with the shapes in the source photo. And I really enjoy further playing around with what the chrome filter produces, as evidenced in today's versions. If I weren't so fond of fuchsia, I'd say "The Dreaming Tree" is my favorite of the two. It puts me in mind of Australian Aboriginal paintings. But truth is, I'm content with them both.

TAKING A TUMBLE; SUNDOWN; & GLIMPSES OF TOMORROW

"Taking A Tumble" (6-3-09 1816v2) above was just fussed out of a five year old photo this afternoon. I sort of held my breath and by-passed all the more recent folders that have been capturing my attention for so long and opened one of my oldest at random. Just to see what would happen. And the three here today are the results. Below is "Sundown" (6-3-09 1816v4) which was flipped on its head, color inverted, and re-colored:

And last below is "Glimpses of Tomorrow" (6-3-09 1816v3), another re-coloring:

I used the underpainting filter on these. One I've frequently tried and rejected; way too blurry. But today I had the thought to apply it, then use some other filter to re-define the edges a bit. I think it was "ink outlines," but I can't swear to it as I tried several before I settled on one.

PLENTIFUL PIPS

Oy! Not only am I stuck in a particular folder (as too often happens) but on a specific photo in it. "Plentiful Pips" (7-7-14 001v8) is yet another version of the one I posted two versions from yesterday. As mentioned in that post I did delete several of the 17 I'd already made. However, that just led to other temptations and more versions, like this one. I see seeds, oil painting brush strokes, and embroidery stitches here. But have gone with the first for the title as seeds came up in a very recent dream.

INTERMEZZO; & MITOTIC MANIA

Today's pic was just taken on my mid-morning walk yesterday. (I now have - I've really got to curb this growing tendency :-D -- 17 versions of it. In my defense, most will probably be deleted before day's end.) The above "Intermezzo" (7-7-14 001v7) really, for me, captures what I feel when looking at this sort of scene, this time of year. I tried it in various sorts of black and white (different ones increase/decrease contrasts, and bring out or reduce areas of gray). But none highlighted that wonderful scintillating light like a little color saturation and the accented edges filter did to produce "Intermezzo." And below is the result of my usual inability to leave well enough alone, "Mitotic Mania" (7-7-14 001v17):

Anyone familiar with Photoshop will probably immediately recognize the stained glass filter in "Mitotic Mania" (along with a couple other filters, as well). Then I did a little bit of global color saturation.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

"Swimming Upstream" (4-6-14 002v9) is a further re-working of yesterday's photo version. It's one of those that tickles me and I'm not quite sure why. Oh, I can pick out suggestive shapes and such, and I do like the unusual-for-me color combo. But it's got me at some other, less conscious level. When this happens I usually suspect ancient visual memory is being triggered and not quite able to swim its way upstream into consciousness. (To further stretch the metaphor in the title, and also what the shapes suggest to me: salmon leaping upstream.)

HEART BREAKING

The approach to "Heart Breaking" was rather unusual for me. In fact, I don't think I've ever so consciously morphed a pic to reflect my mood. By the way, that vague heart shape is actually there in the original photo (looking down onto a wide open, pale pink rose). I did not make that in Photoshop, nature did.
