GANESH EMERGENT

Some explanation for "Ganesh Emergent" (7-23-09 4124v2). Last night was the start of Ganesh Chaturthi, the 10 day Hindu Festival (this year 8-29 to 9-8) celebrating the birthday of Ganesh. Although I am not Hindu, and spiritual only in a very general way, I do have a great fondness for Ganesh. I've been observing this festival for many years, setting up a small altar to Him, offering a little gift each evening, and generally enjoying and learning from what comes to mind and heart as I sit there for a while. In India, at the end of the festival a huge statue of Ganesh is dunked in the Ganges. To me that talks of Him being returned to where He's always been, our unconscious. And therein lies the connection to today's pic that I just morphed out of a very old photo. If He's to be returned to the waters of the unconscious that implies that He emerged. Normally I'd color a Ganesh pic with much orange and some red, as those are His favorite colors. But here He's just emerged, and is still dripping with the mysteries of the watery unconscious. (BTW, I did not morph that twisty tree shape; it's how that tree grew.)

OFFERING THE APPLE

"Offering the Apple" (8-23-09 5998v18) has appeared here before but in a black and white version. I actually had this red version at the time I posted the b&w ("In the Beginning") version, but marginally liked the b&w one more. As I see them now in my folder side-by-side I cannot say which I prefer. And, as usual, time has made me a little less enamored of them both though I do still like them.

PELLUCID; JUST A HINT; & BIRD SONG

As are the other two posted here today, "Pellucid" (9-1-09 6395v12) above is from a very old photo (the same one for all three). At least it's evidence I haven't entirely abandoned realistic pix. Though clearly I have fussed at it a little in Photoshop. I suppose the balance between realistic and abstract pix on this blog is not all that weighted to one side. However, my folders are becoming more and more laden with abstracts, i.e. what I've begun calling "morphs."

This next below, "Just A Hint" (v17), comes closer to a full morphing. I have mixed feelings about the heavy blurring, but think I like it more than not as it gives a pastel or painting-like effect:

And this third and last below, "Bird Song" (v6), goes all the way over into a morph and is about the only one of many versions of this pic with which I am quite content:

BOLT OUT OF THE BLUE

"Bolt Out of the Blue" (2-12-10 19653v4) was just morphed today from an old photo. It was a long torturous (for the pix at least :-D) path to get to a photo I could feel OK about posting. I seem to be more than usually picky these days. I'd like to think it's just my "eye" going through some sort of creative development. Only time will tell if this is the case or not.

GREEN EMERGENT; KNOTTED NOTION

"Green Emergent" (6-28-09 2985v11) above, is from a very old photo. It's the same original pic from which I tortured "Knotted Notion" (v10) below:

Both have had more Photoshop filters applied than I can recall, with the occasional filter several times in a row. (Along with color changes in between it all in MS Picture Manager.) I suppose there are quicker ways to morph, drop out, and/or emphasize portions and details of a photo. But that would only be useful if I knew ahead of time that that's what I wanted to do to a pic. Almost all the time I have no clear idea what I want, where I'm headed. I just follow each turn in the road a filter offers, in one direction or another, and many times just back up and start over.

DREAM OF BRAIDING MY HAIR

What devil of time this morning, trying to find or produce a pic to post. I'd get all excited about some edits I'd make on a pic and within seconds see something else about it I just did not like and could not "fix" or live with. Though I have a lot of failed fudged photos now, I do think they'll wind up eventually being "templates" for future work. But I wanted one I liked at least enough to share today. Then this one popped on my screen. Well, an earlier version. But I didn't have to do too much further with it (beyond the initial massive fooling around) to feel OK about posting it. It's title, "Dream of Braiding My Hair," (7-20-14 02017t) harks back to a funny convoluted dream I had of doing just that many, many years ago when my hair was actually very short, but extremely long in the dream.

SORROWING BEAUTY; & STUDY FOR YELLOW

"Sorrowing Beauty" (7-17-10 10004v9) above, was just this morning re-worked from an old photo. And to show that I'm not stuck on one particular mood (if a bit blue around the edges), below is "Study for Yellow" (7-17-10 10033e) from the same folder. Where it's been sitting unposted for a long time, for some reason I can no longer recall. Especially as all it needed was a tiny bit of cropping:
