RAINY DAY HAVEN

LOL! I won't bore you with all the problems I still have with "Rainy Day Haven" (12-2-14 015). I've been working on it for a couple of days now. And finally realized it's one of those flawed ones that I may never "get right." Each time I fussed with color, contrasts, composition, etc., something else cropped up with which I had trouble. Probably it's only the memory of the feeling I had while taking it that draws me to post it as it is now. Funny thing is I can't even sit in those overstuffed chairs (can barely get out, given my arthritic knees). But in certain lights this area has such a welcoming warmth to it. And, yes, I took this pic on that recent very rainy day we had.

ALL WET

"All Wet" (10-15-09 7530e) is a very old photo of mine and I'm actually posting it exactly as I came across it today. I find it funny that the first old folder I opened was one with a slew of rain pix taken during a storm back in fall of 2009. Coincidence? Possibly. But more likely it was unconscious memory. Even back then, before the present drought, a thoroughly soaking rain storm was a welcome event for me. Having lived all my life back east until early 2008, I was more accustomed to regular rain storms. With respect to the current drought, it's actually looking very cloudy outside my window right now. And though we're not slated to get much rain this time, there is another bigger storm due in a few days. May it be so! As to photography, I should really do some reading on how best to photograph wet things so as to better capture the shimmer and shapes. I remember how surprised I was when the watery shadows and rain drop impressions came out at all in this pic.

RAINY DAY BLUES

"Rainy Day Blues" (12-2-14 025v3) is a brand new morph of a new photo. In actuality, that rainy day was a very happy occasion, given the drought. But blues were the only colors that seemed to really suit this pic. That strong staircase vertical tends to take it over. I even inverted the pic colors first, then fussed with them finding blues softened the impact of that vertical the best. Of course, now that I'm writing about it and checking the pic again, I wonder if that's true. Ah well, it's all I have ready to post and I have to get on with my non-computer work. So here 'tis, for better or for worse.

OPPOSITES ATTRACT; & STORM ON THE MOUNTAINS

"Opposites Attract" (12-2-14 028v7) above, is from one of those pix I took yesterday that I said would probably be morphed. "Storm on the Mountains" (12-2-14 028v2) below, is the same photo in another incarnation:

And here's a link to another version of this pic posted to my dreams & poetry blog today. I have to admit that since morphing these three yesterday out of their original pic, my ardor for them has cooled considerably. However, I still kinda, sorta, like 'em.

THE FUTURE OF RAINY DAYS

"The Future of Rainy Days" (1-13-11 10311v2) is a fairly new version of a pic from that same old folder of pix from which I posted yesterday. However, I only titled it today after wandering around taking rainy day pix. None of which have impressed me on first viewing, but I'll go back to them at a later date. At the very least there are few that will make interesting jumping off points for morphs. And, yes, happy day! A good soaking rainstorm. We need many more like this one today to end the drought, however, it's a delightful start.

IN WINTER'S GRIP

"In Winter's Grip" (1-13-11 10339v6) is from a years old photo. A year in which I took, compared to others at least, very few pix. I decided today to see if wandering around those 2011 folders might be interesting given this. Well, I didn't get past the first folder of that year as I got caught by the original out of which I fussed today's pic. The vantage point from which the original was taken is still one of my favorite views. And it's now going to be partially obstructed by buildings. Ack! In the grip of winter, indeed.

THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME

"The Shape of Things to Come" (11-14-14 033v3) is a brand new edit of a new photo. I'm always trying to catch good shots of tiny rose buds, but rarely get anything worth a second look. Background is even more of a problem with such tiny things. In order to give a sense of scale some sort of recognizable surrounding has to be present. And usually what's around buds is a profusion of distractions that totally upstage the bud. I'm not even certain this one will work visually for anyone but me. But I do like it.
