It's Not the Company It's the Hour is a new photo, just edited this morning. It was taken in that garden I shared a picture of here yesterday. I know many folk find that little "out of place" petal at the center distracting. One woman said about a similar shot that it was a shame I couldn't have gotten a photo without it. What can I say? I find this little petal amusing. Much like someone vaguely covering a sleepy yawn, therefore the title. For me, what bothers me a wee bit is that lower right corner (vaguely distracting, methinks). Fair warning, this is the type of photo I'll probably fuss with again and again in the future; recropping and recoloring. (I've already made one failed, almost abstract version.)

V is for Victory! is a new shot. It's of the source of a great many of the photos I post here, so thought I'd share an overall view for a change. Last year this rose garden was exceptionally beautiful but this year has it beat. All of the gardens on our grounds are planted and tended by volunteer residents, to whom we are all deeply grateful. (Only work like lawn mowing and tree maintenance is done by outside folk for hire.)

Brainstorm is a brand new edit of an old photo for which I've posted a couple other versions. It's clearly one of those pix that keeps drawing me with its suggestive lines and shapes.

So much so, that I had to try another version just now, Stormy Dreaming, below. The resolution is about to go wonky, but I'm sharing it anyway because there's something about it I like.

Speaking of resolution reminds me of all the complaining I've done here recently about my camera. Well, things may improve on one front at least: focus. A friend recently gave me a camera he no longer wants (he's moved into the modern age with a fabulous smartphone). Its focus is more reliable (I've taken pix with it in the past). It does have a lower pixel count so I won't be able to crop photos as small as is my frequent wont. But that'll be a small sacrifice I can live with, if his camera still has reliable focus. If not, his old camera may make a good transition camera until I get a new one. At least I wouldn't be burning up AA batteries as it has a rechargeable one.

Study in Yellow, above, is from that same year old batch I've been working on for a few days now. What a gold mine. Well, not necessarily "gold medal" material, but I'm having a great deal of fun re-discovering these photos and their possibilities.

Noon Day Sun, below, is another version of the same picture:

And Study in Moon Lighting, below, is yet another version of that same photo. And, yes, I'm punning in the title on the expression "moonlighting," as well.

Night Feathers, above, is another of those recently re-vivified year old photos. In both photos posted today I'm clearly fascinated by the lines and patterns more than anything else. I have many shots of these fern branches that I've left in their natural greens (previously posted) but also enjoyed fussing with the colors on these.

And below is The Sorcerer's Wand, an almost identical shot cropped in the same way. (The larger pix just did not yield anything as interesting or had too many distracting elements.)

Doorway to a Dream is from my newest batch of photos, just edited a couple days ago. Yeah, same old color family and style of shot. But I like it. I especially like that sort of hooded effect of the petals above the darkness of the center. Is it welcoming, opening up? Or shy and closing down? Or even an ominous portent? Don't know, just like there's a lot of "don't knows" in dreams.

Surfaces, above, is a brand new crop of a year old photo. I was drawn to focus on the vases and other lines/shapes by my recent thought here that I might do best now to try new subjects.

From the Pulpit, below, is from that same batch of photos and is of what was in those vases.

And The Secret Life of Lilies, below, is the full view of those calla lilies, vases, and table. But clearly, fussed with in my favorite fashion (colors inverted and slightly saturated).

I came across these old photos in weeding out my picture folders yesterday. When I first began the digital photo journey four years ago I was very good about going back regularly and cleaning out what was not workable. I've gotten rather lazy, though, and have too many folders filled with useless pix. And right now I can almost hear my poor old computer complaining about the space they take up. Therefore, the weeding and the irony: many of what I earlier thought were probably useless now turn out to make satisfying photos when re-cropped and fooled around with. Which means that I'm not as far ahead on the number of pix deleted as I would like. But that's not really a complaint. I've found some new photos I feel OK about posting. And if this experience is any indication of the rest of the weeding, I can look forward to some more creative fun.
