Notice of Blogging Break; SEEDING THE NIGHT (photomorph)

Before posting my pic for today (below) I should say that it's my last posting for a while. I'm taking a spring break from blogging. Oh, I'll keep writing my dream poems and working on pix, for sure. And reading and answering comments and emails about my blogs or otherwise. I just want to free up some time for other things that are pressing right now. Don't know how long I'll be on a blogging break. Depends on how everything goes. Now to the post:

"Seeding the Night" (5-9-12 11935v10) seems like an appropriately titled pic for my last post for a little while. Maybe it will seed some good ideas and, better yet, lots of fruitful activity during my spring break. It's clearly been heavily fudged with in Photoshop, even beginning to go really wonky. But working with a blur filter rescued it, ultimately making those swirly streaks into interesting vapor-like trails. This pic, BTW, illustrates what I most enjoy about the effect of the "surface blur" filter. Sometimes fine tuning of the filter's effect adds a sense of depth to a pic.

GARDEN GOSSIP

I thought it was time for a realistic pic, so here's a brand new version of an old photo, "Garden Gossip" (5-9-12 11934v2a). I also made an abstract of a slightly different shot of just the center of the larger rose in this pic. But will save that for posting some other time. As for "Garden Gossip," I've had the original photo hanging around waiting for the will and energy to take on the challenge of a difficult crop and considerable clean up.

FISHING FOR ANSWERS

"Fishing For Answers" (1-22-10 19123v4) is a new morph of a very old photo. Seems my newest obsession in the Photoshop slew of functions is any one or combo thereof that creates detail, detail, detail. That, and the various blur filters. And trying out the various ways that detail and blur might work together. I'll move on eventually and develop other favorite functions/filters, I'm sure. Especially as I learn to use ones new to me. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the answers I'm getting.

LIVID LACE

"Livid Lace" (12-8-09 8549ev7) was just morphed today from a very old photo that had already been fussed with many times. I can imagine I'd be livid after all that twisting and tatting. And, honestly, if I had the time I'd find some other pic to post instead. As I've viewed "Livid Lace" during the posting process I've become less sure it's viable after all I've put it through. I sort of enjoy all those tiny curvy lines that are about to go wonky, but wonder if that makes for art or just a fun mess. Of course, I could make the case that the answer to that depends on how one defines art. But I won't, even though I just did. :-)

LIFT OFF

"Lift Off" (4-8-15a 031v5b) is a brand new morph of a new photo. (Here's another brand new version on my dreams&poetry blog.) I've taken even newer pix, but am still having trouble getting them off my camera onto my computer. Finally did get them loaded, but it leaves me less inclined to take new pix.The thought of all that hassle later. Ack. As I've said here many times before I'm definitely not inclined toward the tech end of things. At least not readily. It takes me so much time and frustration before I get things figured out. In this case, I'm still not sure where the problem actually lies (camera, USB ports, connecting devices between them, or me). But back to today's pic. It's clearly been heavily fudged with. And is a favorite sort of visual contrast, brights on black. (Blush, saying that puts me in mind of tacky paintings on black velvet.)

TIMBER!

"Timber!" (8-5-09 4956v2) is a morph of one of my oldest pix, just tortured from the original source photo this morning. The title was heavily influenced by some on-going drilling right outside my front door that might as well be a lumberjack sawing away at some huge tree. Noisy? One might say that. Also, lots of vibrations. Ah well, maybe I also managed to incorporate all that into the photo as well. At a less conscious level, but the influence was there nevertheless. The vast majority of the time that's about all I can constructively do about a life situation: try to make art out of it.

RISING ON THE NIGHT & IN CHERRY BLOSSOM TIME

"Rising On the Night" (6-12-09 2147v5) is a brand new morph of one of my oldest pix. (There's another version just made today here.) This figure is actually part of a large bird bath that used to be on our grounds, beneath a gorgeous old tree that's also now no longer there. I miss both this maiden and that tree. However, the space where they used to be is much sunnier. And has plenty of other sorts of intriguing things of which to take pix. I can't remember exactly what I did to get the already edited version that became "Rising On the Night" today. And the original source photo is long gone (like the figure and the tree) or I'd have tried working with that. But that hasn't stopped me from morphing another one, below, "In Cherry Blossom Time" (6-12-09 2147v9a):

I actually like this cherry blossom version most of the several I produced today.  Now, if I can find a way in the future to more thoroughly change the grey background color that the "emboss" filter always introduces, I'll be really happy.
