CROSSING PATHS; & GOTCHA!

Crossing Paths (2-8-14a 003v2 2-12-14) is brand new, taken barely two days before the moon was totally full. Given my low-end camera and the low light, it's rather surprising the shot came out even this well. When my friend and I first stopped to gaze at the moon and those jet trails, the trails hadn't yet split to either side of the moon. But when I realized they would be doing so and soon, I fumbled around for my camera knowing full well the chances were zero and next to nothing of a decent pic. Well, next to nothing in this case turned out to be happily mediocre. And I have a record of that intriguing sky dance of moon and trails. Also, had I had more time (i.e., were I able to walk quickly) I'd have framed this shot differently. And, no, it's not possible to crop out more of that distracting flora because I tried that and the quality of the photo degrades even further. ("Crossing Paths" itself is cropped from the much bigger scene of the original.) Yet, given all these givens, I'm content to have this photo.

Then there's this version below, Gotcha! (2-8-14 003v3 2-12-14) which is also sort of fun:

The problem (other than clarity and composition) I have with both these versions is that in having to saturate the colors to bring out those jet trails, the palms also got saturated a bit too much to suit my eye. But, hey, I'd expected nothing from these shots so I should stop complaining and explaining, and be happy with what I have.

EVANESCENCE

Not sure if I've posted this one before. There were a few months for which I did not record which photos I posted, and where and when. It had become a chore I was no longer willing to do. But, of course, I found I really do need to keep somewhat detailed notes; if not as involved as I had been keeping. And have since developed a less time consuming but quite effective system. However, I cannot know which pix I posted when I wasn't keeping records. I do know I posted a re-worked version of this pic above. And I could go on a lengthy search (looking at months and months of posts here and on my other blogs) to be sure I have not also posted this one. But even were I to find I have used it before, I'd probably go ahead and post it again today. Because when I stumbled across Evanescence (11-19-09 8259e) this morning, I thought, yes, just what I need today. To be reminded that there are things in life that are real and soft and beautiful, if fleeting.

PHOTOTROPIC; & HELIOTROPIC

Phototropic (5-25-09 1729ev4), above, is from one of my oldest folders of pix, given a hefty work-over today. I'm sort of stuck on the concept of tropism today. It's also in a dream poem I just posted this morning to my dreams & poetry blog. So that at least explains this title. It also explains the title of the other version I made today, Heliotropic (5-25-09 1729ev5):

Though I suppose my leaning (:-D) toward the word tropism today may explain the titles to some degree, it doesn't explain where I was trying to go with these photos. Hm, then again, that's just the point. I was drawn on an inner level by something that feels external. And that, in essence, is what a tropism is.

BLUEBEARD'S LAMENT; AT LOOSE ENDS; & ALL SHOOK UP

All three pix posted here today are clearly from the same crop of the same original photo, an old one (big surprise, ey?). And these are only the versions of it I'm choosing to post today; I've others. The one above is Bluebeard's Lament (4-25-11 10768ev5).

This one immediately below is At Loose Ends (4-25-11 10768ev5):

And this last below is All Shook Up (4-25-11 10768ev5):

LEAVING THE AGORA; & OBELISK

Leaving the Agora (8-10-09 5287v2) is a very old pic, just revised recently. I've taken many shots, some more distant, of this particular view. And as I've said here before it grabbed my attention with its rather mythic or ancient history feel.

And here's another version of that same photo, Obelisk (8-10-09 5287v3):

IN A DRY SEASON

In A Dry Season (2-8-14 023v4) is a brand new photo, just worked on late last night. A lot of the pix in this new folder just didn't come out. Twilight is a hard time for my camera, and I also tried getting some very distant mountain shots. Hey, it was fun trying. The setting sun had lit up the distant foothills like gold and there were grey clouds hovering closely above them with some puffs of white. And the entire foreground, from right in front of me up to those mountains and sky, was pretty much silhouetted. I just kept thinking, "There's gold in them thar hills!" Well, to get back to "In A Dry Season," it was a toss away shot as I entered our retirement community's front gate. The sun was still lighting up that area that's brightest in this photo and I liked that contrast. I barely framed the shot, though, especially as I've had frustrating experiences before trying to get pix of this little garden. But I thought, why not? It can simply join all those mountain shots I'm fairly certain won't come out either. And the original for "In A Dry Season" did turn out to be problematic. However, I'm content with what I did to it in Photoshop and MS Picture Manager. And all the failed pix? I rarely wind up looking more thoroughly at things than when I'm photographing or writing about them. And that's always a delight in and of itself.
