LOST IN NEVERLAND; & THE BURROW

Lost In Neverland (8-5-09 5006v3), above, was just edited yesterday (along with the other pic posted here today) and is in one of my oldest folders of photos. Again, one of those twisty trees I love to look at and that always invite my imagination to run wild when editing pix of them.

The Burrow (8-50-09 5006v4), below, is from the same source photo as "Lost in Neverland." Yeah, I can never leave well enough alone. Especially when my penchant for fantasy gets piqued.

TAKING A LEAP

Taking A Leap is a recent re-working of a very old photo. What can I say about it except that its colors and shapes captivate me. That's not to say my critical eye is totally closed today (it never is). But, hey, today I'm quite willing to overlook small potatoes in favor of this leaping archaic marine creature (which is what I see in it). I should add that this is another version of one of my favorite trees around here and I didn't twist or modify those curves and shapes. That's how this sort of tree grows. I wonder if this transplanted New York City resident will ever get jaded at the sight of such marvels growing live, right in front of me.

LAST SUNSET; & LOURING

Don't have much to say about Last Sunset (5-9-12 11935v4) except that it's from an old photo that I've been fussing with for a few days. And that I have a couple other previous versions I've posted to my dreams & poetry blog some time back. The source picture for "Last Sunset" is in that crowd of pix that I keep coming back to because of their interesting shapes and lines. Just like I came back to "Last Sunset" and produced Louring (5-9-12 11935v7), below, today.

I'll spare any reader my usual comment about liking and/or disliking these photos. And simply say I'm grateful to have had this work as a brief distraction from an otherwise very uncomfortable state of mind (to put it mildly).

upsideDOWN

upsideDOWN (5-7-12 11874ev5) is (so, what else is new?) an old photo, just messed with today. It's also one of those once I see it in blogger, whose colors are somewhat different than in any other program I viewed it in. And as I've said before, in this instance I don't mind too much that some purple/lavender shades are sneaking into it. But it's still annoying as those are not the blue shades I chose -- oh-so-carefully -- in MS Picture Manager. Well, what makes me think that anything in this life is really under my control anyway? Though I must now also admit that the additional shades of lavender/purple add an illusion of depth to some of the shapes. Reminds me of something an old Tarot reading buddy of mine and I used to say when a meaning was rather off the mark for a card: If it isn't OK, we'll make it OK! :-)

P.S. of 1-23-14: Now the dang colors appear almost as I chose them, little lavender at all among all the shades of blue. I'd be tempted to say it's the light in my room that causes these changes in color. Except that one day here in paradise is as sunny as the next (which is why we're in a drought) and the color difference only ever shows on a blogger screen (in their preview page or on the internet). Ack. Of course, there's a third possibility, someone's trying to gaslight this old lady. :-)

AT THE EDGE OF MIDNIGHT; & THE MOURNING TREE

At the Edge of Midnight (8-5-09 5009v5), above, is one of my oldest pix, just fudged with this morning. And like both pix I'm posting here today, it holds (at least to my eye) the promise of life and growth. There's a whole bunch of Photoshop functions in this pic plus some MS Picture Manager adjustments. By the way, both of these pix look better in smaller versions (i.e. as they appear on the blogger screen, rather than clicking on them for a larger view). They were taken with my first camera with a low pixel count.

The Mourning Tree (8-5-9 5006ev2), above, is from the same folder as "At the Edge of Midnight." I used a slew of functions on it and did some color inverting and re-inverting, etc.

I can't say I'm delighted with these pix. However, I will confess a growing attachment to "The Mourning Tree." Maybe simply because I can still see the original tree beneath all the messing around I did. A tree that I am very fond of and miss being able to take the long walk to visit. Which is, by the way, naturally twisty. I did not change any of the shapes in the pic in Photoshop.

JOHNNY APPLESEED

Johnny Appleseed (5-9-12 11932v3) is from last spring and just now "worked over" as the expression goes. I like it but it's one of those I really don't think anyone else will. So be it. I feel rather more than punk today. So it pleases me to rebel against my critical voice and post this highly questionable effort.
