WILLOW-THE-WISP

"Willow-the-Wisp" (8-1-17 003v2c) was fussed out of its original pic about a week go. And I'm relieved to say I do really like it, without any reservations for a change. Given my horrendous state of mind today, that's saying a lot more than it might. Big Wry Laugh! Maybe my mood's exactly why I like this pic ... I can't see past my personal sturm und drang long enough to even begin to pick at it. Any critiquing's no more than a will-o-the-wisp on the wind.

LOVE WILL ALWAYS OUT

"Love Will Always Out" (3-3-10 10013v2) was just tortured from a very old original (i.e., unedited) pic. One I've liked since I first took it and that's why I held on to it for so long. Well, can't say as I'm all that jazzed by what I've made of it here today. But it's passable, and I don't have the inclination or energy to drop it and work on some other pic. Should add that the title is really a wish ... I'm not sure love does always out. At least it hasn't in my life so far. Yeah, note that "so far..." The hope it will eventually out just doesn't let go.

NIGHT CLIMB

"Night Climb" (8-1-17 003v2a) was fudged from its new original pic about a week ago. This is one of those willows I often sit under on my walker for a rest on long walks. I was actually sitting when I took this shot, looking straight up into the branches. I think it's this, plus the camera having a wide angle lens, that gives the pic its sort of odd perspective. Which I really liked on first seeing it on my computer screen. And then when I fussed with the pic so that it began to look like a night shot, I liked the angling even more. Of course, all this may not mean much visually to a viewer who's not got the memory of the original pic and scene in his/her mind. :-)

THROUGH THE LENS OF PASSION

"Through the Lens of Passion" (3-3-10 10002v5b) was just morphed yesterday from a very old version of a much older pic, and just fussed with a bit this morning, too. (I'm always surprised when pix I work on so much don't go totally wonky on me.) What else to say about it? It initially suggested the eye of The Devil to me. But once I added other fillips and filters, etc., it became something else. Though one can still see the suggestion of an eye, I'd say. I'm really into red this past couple of days. Somewhat unusual for me. Not that I don't like red -- I actually like all color -- but I rarely focus on red. The cooler colors usually get a hold of me. I suppose it makes sense red is grabbing me, given how frustrated I am. In every way. Hot under the collar (and elsewhere). And I've been thinking how we always perceive the world through some filter -- or haze -- of our own (and sometimes more than one).

HEADED FOR HOME

"Headed for Home" (8-7-17 018v2) is a shot I've taken many times over the years, in different weather, seasons, and times of the day. I think this is the first time, though, that I've cropped it this narrow and maybe that's why I'm rather content with it. (Those tall bushes sort of peeking in on the left tend to visually take over in the wider versions.) I now have the urge to go up on the second floor balcony (above where I was standing for this shot) and get a better pic of those fabulous tree branches. (Something else I've taken many shots of over my 9-1/2 years here.) BTW, yesterday afternoon was the first time I've gone on a deliberate photo amble around our grounds in ages. And that was after an earlier long walk to the ocean. I even later sat on another second floor balcony around here that affords a look at the mountains, and read for a while. But after first taking a couple of experimental pix. Overall, a refreshing day.

POINT OF BALANCE

"Point of Balance" (8-7-17 001v2) was just taken on my walk to the beach overlook earlier today. I like it a lot, despite some bits I tried changing but could not without messing with the entire pic to its detriment. I've been trying out Photoshop's "lasso" function in which you draw a line around a discrete area that will be the only place in the pic the function or filter you then select will be applied. It's worked nicely in some pix, but not in this one or those dark box/stumps on the middle right would be a wee bit lighter and show a little detail. As to the title: I really wanted to call it "Byzantine Cross" but the lowest horizontal bar is usually tilted. It also makes me think of the three tiered cross on the end of a staff that The Hierophant (also known as The Pontiff or The High Priest) in The Tarot is almost always holding. But didn't know what that would be called other than triple cross (?). So gave up and went with "Point of Balance," referencing my sense that by placing myself where I did to snap the pic I felt that the world was briefly all balanced. Well, at least that of the world I was looking at at the moment. :-) I also have to admit to a feeling of rebellion. Those who've studied and those who teach photography always heavily emphasize not totally balancing a pic. I once said to a trained photog I know that it's true and I usually work to avoid stultifying balance -- but that once in a great while balancing a pic completely is very effective. I'd like to think that it works here.

REACHING FOR THE STARS

"Reaching for the Stars" (7-31-17 001v3) was just morphed from a new pic. It's basically the same pic version I posted to my dreams&poetry blog just now; click here to view it. All I did (except for some slight color work) was to invert the colors of "Party Wave" and then flip it on its head. Oy! Pardon the bad pun, but it's as if "Reaching for the Stars" were a wipe out of "Party Wave."
