"The Trees Keep An Eye Out" (10-27-16 021v2a) was just fudged from an old original pic of mine. It's essentially the same, just cropped, diffused, and sharpened, with some slight color and contrast work done. This pic was taken looking up from those roots of which I so often take pix. This particular pic always makes me wonder at the that "98" carved way in the lower left. Did some UCSB couple leave it there, all those years ago? (This tree, and several others, are right in the heart of Isla Vista, the University of CA at Santa Barbara's "college town.")

NAME HER CORDYLINE

"Name Her Cordyline" (12-09-16 003v2) is an old fudging of an old pic of mine. I've always really liked the color of this plant (the cordyline is pretty much this color live) and was delighted to see how this crop makes the leaves look almost as if they'd been neatly combed. I've also always liked the sound of the plant's name "COR-duh-lynee;" that it would make a lovely name for a girl.

THE WASHER AT THE FORD

"The Washer at the Ford" (10-18-17 018v2h) is an old morph of an almost year old pic of mine. (The original is of those fabulous tree roots of which I so enjoy taking pix.) The mythological character referenced by the title is the the bean nighe, a form of the better known bean sidhe (or banshee) in Celtic myth. The bean nighe (Scottish Gaelic for "washerwoman" or "laundress") is a female spirit in Scottish folklore, regarded as an omen of death and a messenger from the Otherworld.

SIGN LANGUAGE

"Sign Language" (8-16-18 5610e) is a very old pic of mine, just ever so slightly fussed with today. I thought I'd finally gotten it to a place I was quite happy with, when I noticed not only the focus isn't terrific (and sharpening only adds a fussiness), but that bit of cactus tip entering the pic frame in the upper left is distracting. Ack! Ah well, the pic still gives me a chuckle every time I stumble across it. So for what it's worth -- and hopefully that's at least a wee smile -- here it is.
