WINTER'S APPROACH

I was just over by these trees today. First time out on a long walk since the Thomas wildfire started weeks ago. I took some new pix but don't have time to load them to my computer right now. But thought I could post this one taken earlier this month ("Winter's Approach" 12-6-17 005v2). Probably snapped on the last walk I took before I decided the air was too smokey to cope with. Even with a mask (what a pain in the butt a mask is ... yes, very useful, but if I don't have to, I ain't gonna wear one!). I did have one with me today just in case, as simply doing a lot of singing one evening indoors made me raspy. But didn't need the mask. I was also glad to note my legs were up to the challenge after a couple weeks of little exercise. But back to this pic: the photos I took today were of these trees. It'll be interesting to see how different they may turn out to be (or not). And the trees in the park were filled more than usual with birds, all of them very verbal: crows and some other small birds with a high pitched sound. Chatter, chatter, chatter... swoop, swoop ... Loved it.

TOO MUCH LIKE SNOW

Don't think "Too Much Like Snow" (12-20-17 006v2) is any great shakes as a shot. But it does show clearly one of the effects of the Thomas fire that I've been talking about here. (BTW, it's now about 55% contained. But winds have increased greatly and by the morning we'll know if there have been any big flare ups or any spreading.) This banana leaf plant is one I pass a couple times a day; it's right around a short corner from our elevator. The pile up of ash got even worse that day (a couple weeks ago). Our maintenance crew pretty quickly hosed down our walkways and these large plants.

LINES OF FIRE

"Lines of Fire" (11-27-15 009v2d) was just now morphed from an old version of an even older photo. Yeah, it seems I'm being a lot more influenced -- at least in my writing and pix -- by this wildfire season than any previous one during my ten years in CA. Especially the humongous Thomas wildfire that's still burning and not expected to be fully contained until January 7th. (It's now said to be at 50% contained.) Click here to see the post this morning to my dreams&poetry blog which has both a tanka and a pic that's wildfire-based.

THE ROSE OF THE IMAGINATION

"The Rose of the Imagination" (6-12-16 001v2h) was just morphed from a different old version of the same original pic as yesterday's posted photo. Kinda stuck on these shapes, what can I say. I'm not mad about it, but in a way the process of fudging with it felt like trying to re-imagine a rose. (The original shot was taken looking straight down into a wide open, solid white rose, BTW.)

FIRE FIGHT

"Fire Fight" (6-12-16 001v6k) was just morphed from an old version of a pic that's a year and a half old itself. Clearly, I did a lot of fussing at it in Photoshop (and it had already been extensively fudged with). The fire fight theme came out of having written a tanka about the huge Thomas Wildfire that's currently burning here in CA. (Or rather, my reaction to it.) I didn't set out to produce a fire photo, but it was in the back of my mind having just posted that tanka to my dreams&poetry blog. BTW, I can "see" two fire creatures doing battle in this pic. So I understand that title in two ways.
