ON A GOLDEN PLATTER; & DOUBLE RAINBOW

On A Golden Platter (12-24-13 003v3), above, is from a different shot of those same blooms pictured here a couple days ago.

And Double Rainbow (12-14-13 003v10), below, is another version of the same photo used for "On A Golden Platter":

I'd actually wanted to post a much more straightforward version of this shot, but I had that problem again with it looking different on this blog than in other programs. I've now noted it seems to occur mostly when I've done a lot of darkening of midtones in order to drop out the background. It may be time for me to think about trying out a site that's designed specifically for photo sharing.

INFINITE SCARECROW; & CLEARING THE WAY

Infinite Scarecrow is from that folder of pix I took on Christmas Eve. I've been having great fun messing with its photos in Photoshop and MS Picture Manager. Maybe it's because I had The Wizard of Oz on as I worked at my computer the other day, that I keep seeing characters from that movie in my photos. (Glinda the Good Witch has even appeared in a dream.)

This second picture is one of several attempts to capture a bee at its business. Since bees move so dang fast (especially once they sense me looming over them no matter how carefully I move, even holding my breath!) I take no time at all to frame the shots. But just point and click, one after the other, as fast as I can without moving suddenly. I have to admit that even other sorts of shots that I frame rarely come out as I would hope. However, I don't wind up with part of a blossom outside the frame, as I do with bee shots. As I did with one of this particular bee. Anyway, after much fussing (including that slight change of hue) I settled on this version of a pic of that flighty bee, Clearing the Way:

By the way, until I cropped "Clearing the Way" in really close I did not see that the bee's feelers look as if they're gripping that petal. That's what ultimately appeals to me about this picture.

CHRISTMAS CUPS

Christmas Cups was just taken on Christmas Eve in our memorial rose garden, along with a few other pix. Alert: complaint ahead. After doing a considerable amount of cleaning up and other fussing to deal with lots of distracting "schmutz" around these gorgeous blossoms, the photo as posted here appears almost as messy as the original before I cleaned it up. (I.e., the background in other programs is darker and a bit more uniform. And where I've "painted" over is not apparent, as it is here if you look closely.) Ack! More and more I'm finding color and lightness/darkness differences between what shows up on my blogs, and what appears in all other programs on my computer. Not to mention (but I'm going to) a pesky and continuous error message blogger's editing pages have been giving now for weeks. I googled about it and apparently it has to do with a coding issue between IE/Microsoft and Google. Both making for less than optimally enjoyable blogging these days.

However, I hasten to add I enjoyed snapping this pic (and all the others) on Christmas Eve. These two roses in particular felt like a Christmas gift. Maybe their "wrapping" as it appears here is less neat than what I'd like, but their beauty still shines.

WAITING FOR THE MOON

Waiting for the Moon (4-21-13 12588ev2) is a relatively new photo compared to many of those I've been sharing recently. It's only eight months old and was edited this way pretty much right after I took it. I used it recently to accompany a haiku by a Japanese master as to my eye it vaguely resembles the sort of Japanese painting on which haiku were often "calligraphed." I thought I'd put it up today as it's in a rather different style than the bulk of the pictures I've posted here.

And last but most certainly not least: MAY YULETIDE BE JOYOUS FOR YOU & YOURS!

WINTER'S CAULDRON

Winter's Cauldron (10-26-12 1222ev4) is the fourth version of this year old photo that I've made. I think this one was influenced by my chilly fingers as I worked on it. I was just too lazy (well, maybe just too focused) to get up and turn on the heat.

DENIZENS OF THE DEEP; & LIFE ON THE CLIFFSIDE

Denizens of the Deep (11-19-09 8259ev4) is another one from that old folder I keep coming back to, just fudged with yesterday.

And below is another version just made this morning, Life on the Cliffside (11-19-09 8259ev5):

Both of course had several filters applied (and re-applied) in Photoshop, and were then re-colored in MS Picture Manager. Though the process isn't as straightforward as that since I move back and forth a lot between these two programs trying out this and that.
