LIFE IN THE SHADOWS

I've very mixed feelings about "Life in the Shadows" (3-9-10 10004v2). It's a brand new version of a very old photo. I've always liked those shadows the back-lighting casts. And the yellow is lovely. But ... I've never found just the right crop. This bunch of what I think are orchids are taller, but I have one pic that way and I wanted to further emphasize those shadows. Ah well, maybe I'll try again at some future date. Given how I hoard pix, that could very well happen and a better pic just might result.

SEEDS TO THE WIND

"Seeds to the Wind" (2-19-10 19955ev4) was just whipped a bit more into shape out of an old version of a very old pic. One from that same folder I've been "stuck" in, on and off, for days now. Didn't do much to it. Just a very slight re-cropping (to meet the change in pic dimensions demanded by the online printer I use that's come about since first cropping it years ago), and wee bit of contrast work on the colors to bring out those "seeds" a bit more. I've always really liked this flower "profile" and have (can you guess) other versions of this crop of the original, much larger pic.

SEED OF WINTER

"Seed of Winter" (2-19-10 19951ev7c) was morphed today from a pic in a folder I've been pretty much "stuck" in for a while. This happened once before -- and with the original pic of this same photo -- as there are many versions of it. One of those pix/folders that is chock full of suggestive pix and versions thereof. Another of those versions appears on my dreams&poetry blog here. As to winter? Even though autumn's just started, we've had some weather that got cold enough in the wee hours for me to curl up really tight in my blanket. (Even though it's supposed to be 80 tomorrow!) A sort of precursor -- or seed, if you will -- of what's to come. And what I did to get to this pic? Couldn't say if I were paid to. There's so much editing in it I'm surprised it hasn't gone totally wonky on me. I was actually quite surprised those sort of crackly/crystalline areas held up.

HYMN TO AUTUMN

"Hymn to Autumn" (2-19-10 19962v2) was just now fussed from its very old original pic. It was the first of seven I wound up making this morning. Each successive version becoming less realistic, but all still holding something of these little orchids' intriguing shapes. However, when I came back to the full folder of pix (which has many other pix I want to fudge with and soon) and saw this first version I'd just made, I really liked it best. BTW, with all these autumn-themed pix I've been posting, it seems I'm going to have to embrace that fall is my favorite season. I've always known I was somewhat partial to it, but now, it heads up the list. Winter's at the bottom (back east kind of winter, with snow and ice -- fuggedaboudit!), and spring and summer tying for a close second place. :-)

FLIGHT OF THE MONARCH

"Flight of the Monarch" (2-18-10 19938v7) was just further fussed out of a very old version of a very old photo. It's one of those I flip back and forth on ... do I like it? do I not? Right now I like it. But I think that's mostly because I tried a totally different version after this one and did not like that one at all. So when I saw this one again ... oh, I said to myself, that's really OK. At least I can honestly say I like the color combo and the shapes and those squiggly lines ... well, that's pretty much the entire pic, isn't it? LOL!

THE TASK OF INTERPRETATION

"The Task of Interpretation" (2-7-10 19448v3) was just now fussed from a very old version of a very old pic. These trees no longer exist. They've long since been cut down. I'm glad to have pix of them; wish I'd taken more, actually. Especially when they were leafed. The corner these were on still has a lovely huge fir (I believe, but maybe pine?) that I sometimes sit beneath on my walker for a rest on the way home. (The retirement community I live in is just "around the bend.")
