New Spring Line is a brand new edit of an old picture. For the five springs I've been living here in south central California I have enjoyed these blossoms. We don't have a profusion of them on our grounds, like so many of the other flowers in our gardens. So I watch the two areas in which I now know they appear. This was taken in front of a white brick wall which is always problematic, explaining why (beyond my penchant for doing so) I inverted the colors. Usually then I will take the color on these blooms back to their natural red. But I so like these aqua and green shades, and the painting-like effect, that I'm letting it stand. The entire result puts me in mind of a designer's watercolor sketch for a new spring line of skirts.

Morning Tide is a very old photo. Maybe the first one with which I stumbled into more willfull editing when on cropping it, it's entire aspect changed. This is a very small portion of the original picture, which I don't even have anymore. (I stopped deleting originals once I realized I'd been possesed by the re-edit bug. And that was fairly early on in my first year of photo taking.) I've always wished this one's resolution were better; it was taken with my first low pixel count camera. But I settled for deliberately blurring it a bit more at some point, aiming for a more watercolor-like look. There are other little things about it I would change but can't because it would involve more cropping which would send the resolution totally wonky. (E.g., crop it so that central large leaf/blade is more off-center.) But for all its glitches I'm still fond of it. Possibly because I can still remember where I took it on a lovely long morning walk, taking photos along the way.

BTW, I’ve found a work around for that blogger photo posting problem I was having. Odd thing is, the problem was first reported and supposedly fixed in early January, at which time they announced a work around. Well, of course their work around no longer works or maybe it just doesn’t on my old computer. But their instructions gave me an idea for how I’m getting new coding for posting now.

Raveling On is not one I'd have probably chosen to post here today but blogger's still not providing the coding for new photo uploads. So I have no choice but to "cannibalize" previous posts to my other blog for the coding for a picture to post here. And this rather narrows my field of choice. However, there is a certain truth in this photo's title. I do very much feel as if I'm unraveling. This blogger glitch (probably really due to my old computer) is only one of many things around me that are falling apart (both literally and metaphorically). One can hope that when the unraveling is done there will be an opportunity to knit something new out of it all.

Enough complaining. Hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day!

Taking It On The Chin: 2009 photo, revised in November of 2012 (re-cropped, and colors inverted and additionally manipulated).

This picture is not one I'd have necessarily chosen to post to this blog, but blogger's made some sort of upgrade that (again) leaves me in the dust. At least I'm assuming it's due to my ancient computer. That is, I can't get the coding for any new photo I upload. So all I can do is copy coding I already have from photo posts to my other blog (dreams & poetry). Fortunately, most of the photos on that other blog have not been posted here. However, this still severely limits the choice of photos for this blog. I'd like to think I'm stalwart about this and the myriad of other things that have gone awry in my life today. That I'm "taking it on the chin" but I'm not. I'm being rather whiney about it all. Which is really not called for with respect to this blogger problem at least, as I have my new computer just waiting to be set up!

Wishing Well is an old photo just re-worked. One of those pix I keep coming back to, dipping into it again and again for inspiration. Not surprising I'd come up with a picture version today that suggested something wishful, given the tangle of impasses I find myself at these days.

On another subject, more and more I'm wondering if I should be going into what I've done to a photo to get certain effects. I'm fairly sure anyone who's "post production" savvy can tell (neither my approach nor my equipment is all that sophisticated). And anyone who isn't probably won't know what the terms mean. But, hey, it gives this old lady something more to do with her time other than complain. So, I first re-cropped this photo to focus more on the the central circle. Then I inverted the colors and changed them some more.

Slip Sliding Away was just re-worked this morning from one of my oldest photos. One of those pix I keep coming back to; other versions of it have appeared here. Don't know what else to say about it except that it's (big surprise) color inverted. But I then took the colors back to the natural red of the amaryllis. However, having inverted them first made the shadows at the center become more like light radiating. An effect I am (probably overly) fond of.

A Light Rain is another old photo, recently re-worked. This is one of those photos that raises lovely memories. It took it (and many others) right after a big rain storm. Both highlights and shadows were crisp, and the gentle tumult left in the garden by the storm was visually engaging. I hope I will be forgiven for going with my much used favorite color on this version.
