Baby's New Bonnet is a very new photo. I suppose one could think of this sort of rose as stunted, growing as it did on a bush with larger, lusher, more symmetrical blossoms. But I always enjoy this sort of sweet maverick.

Moonlight Sonata is another from that brand new batch of photos I posted from yesterday, just worked on this morning. I had a tape at one time, decades back, of the Moonlight Sonata played on a bamboo flute. Break your heart beautiful. When I hit on this version of the photo (I'd tried several before it) I felt just a wisp of what that recording used to evoke.

Say "Cheese" is brand new; I wandered (um, more accurately put, hobbled) around our rose garden again yesterday. I had the usual problem with my camera's failing focus on most of the pictures; this one above is one of the few that was fairly clear. There are a couple more straightforward rose shots with decent focus but they need some work (e.g., coloring out obstructive spots) that I'm not up to doing just yet.

And now, for my usual wont. Here's two from yesterday in which I went completely with my imagination. This one immediately below is called By the Fire's Glow:

This last for today is Aurora Borealis:

The Inner Life of Trees is a three year old photo, just re-worked this morning. I've never wanted to delete it, but also had no urge to post or use it in any way until today. I remember just where I took it -- near the gazebo by our pool. It was just this time of year, on a beautiful sunny afternoon, which is pretty much par for the course in California. As I think of all my friends on the East Coast now coping with "Lady Frankenstorm" (that superstorm, Sandy) I'm more than usually grateful for our consistently lovely weather. I also note a vague resemblance in the photo to an arachnid, which certainly fits a Halloween theme.

Today's post is total self-indulgence. Not that previous posts haven't been, but here I'm playing around even more with color, with little to no idea whether it "works" in any of the three versions of the same photo below. Only that I enjoyed doing it and looking at the results. (The original and these versions are all very new. I'm always delighted at how our rose garden produces some of it's best blooms at season's end.)

I've not determined titles yet for these three, therefore this is [Version One]:

Here's [Version Two]:

And last is [Version Three]:

I'm even wondering if leaving them titled with version numbers might work, since their colors are so far from natural. (I have thought those two buds look a bit like little flames or horns, but couldn't get any further than that.) I'll think more on titles, if I decide the photos are worth any further fuss.

As in yesterday's post, Deflagration (above) is another brand new photo, paired with its original version (below). Well, more original than not, that is. The colors have been "saturated" in Debut to bring them out --

Yesterday, I had a clear preference between the "after and before editing" pictures. But today I don't. I'm always partial to purple as in "Deflagration," but I love that little world of seeds cupped at the center of "Debut." Truth be told? I could wish the focus on both were crisper. (I've complained here before that my low-end camera's focus is not reliable and that it might be getting worse. It is. But I've got to get a new computer system paid for before I even consider a new camera. So, in the meantime, I enjoy attempting to make lemonade out of whatever lemons I'm handed.)
