THE SHAPE OF THE RAIN

"The Shape of the Rain" is a photo from October of 2009 that I just recently recropped, and sharpened a little bit to bring out the rain drops. It pretty much reflects my on-going mood. Soggy and weighted down, but at least I can enjoy the color of this bloom. Though I hasten to add that I've rarely gotten a shot of these blooms in which the color is the same as it is "live." The color is actually a bit deeper and a wee bit less fuchsia, and I like it just as much as what tends to show up in pictures like this one.

THE HIDDEN WORLD

"The Hidden World" is one of five different versions I've made to date of this shot. As I've noted here before, I love this view and this shot is one of the best I've gotten of it yet (sans full moon, which when it appears is to the right of that tower). Reversing and/or changing the color(s), totally changes the mood. Here's the original:

But today, it's "The Hidden World" that most appeals to me, in this photo and in my life as a whole. Actually, it's the hidden world that almost always calls to me most. So much so that when I finish my blog work every morning I feel sad to have to enter the "real," more apparent world.

OUT OF ONE'S ELEMENT

"Out of One's Element" is an almost three year old photo that perfectly reflects my mood today. Actually, a better title might be "Fish Up a Tree" but that's too literal. I took this on my first trip to Hendry's Beach when I'd been living in California for only six months. I was recently informed by long-time residents that one doesn't usually pronounce the "d" in "Hendry," much to my embarrassment. Still out of my element ....

ME NEXT! & ARACHNOPHOBIA

The faces of orchids like these in "Me Next!" (above) always seem so animated. But they're rather difficult for me to get good shots of. The light has to be just right (again, this may be that problem with my camera I keep complaining about) in order for them to be in focus at all. This photo is one of the better ones I caught this spring.

"Arachnophobia" (immediately above) is an example of the sort of thing my associating brain does all the time. It's actually a bit surprising I have any straighforward pictures of anything. Maybe it's the long standing habit developed in writing poetry -- a search for connection and expansion that metaphor provides. Or maybe my brain has always done this and is why I was drawn to poetry to begin with. At any rate, I don't think this is much of a photo. About the only use I can see for it might be as a Halloween card. LOL!

IN THE SOLAR WINDS & FRIENDSHIP IN THE PINK

I've thought to post "In the Solar Winds" (above) and "Friendship In the Pink" (below) ever since I took and edited them at the end of April, but they both needed a little bit of cleaning up. Each had a tiny dark insect in a center that was distracting and I just wasn't up to doing that painstaking painting-over until today. I also have to admit I worry about how my advancing cataracts may be effecting my ability to neatly do that sort of cover-up work. Sigh, life not in the pink.

I should add that there's an additional pun in the title "Friendship in the Pink." The name of the retirement community I live in, on the grounds of which I took the photo, is called "Friendship Manor."

A SPRING HAT, A NEW HAIRDO, & GOSSIPS GALORE

Guess if I needed any proof I'm depressed, just not having taken any new photos of these blossoms would serve as such. This one above ("A Spring Hat") and the one below ("A New Hairdo") are from 2010. While right now, were I to go out to this stand of cannas I'd find new blooms to photograph.

And this last one below, "Gossips Galore," is another one from that same two year old batch of pictures.

BY DIFFERENT LIGHTS & WOLF MOON

This scene is one of my favorites on the grounds of the retirement community in which I live. I often don't even take pictures but just stand there enjoying it. In this shot, "By Different Lights," it's barely discernible but there's also a full moon to the right of the tower, among the branches. I've posted many different shots of this particular view, taken at many different times of the day. Here's one I posted to my dreams & poetry blog (again) recently, "Wolf Moon," taken from one floor higher up --

My wish? That I could get a shot with a full moon presence as in "Wolf Moon" and with neatly lined-up buildings as in "By Different Lights." I've been trying ever since I first started taking photos in March of 2009. Maybe someday. Probably in that far future time in which I have a better camera. I'm getting better at lining things up nicely (along with having discovered a by degrees "tilt" function in one of my editing programs :-D), but can't do much with a camera just not made to take distant sky shots.
