Abstraction is over two years old, just re-visioned today using one of the new picture editing programs on my new computer. I have many photos of this particular tree, from different angles and in different light. It's an endlessly fascinating entity. From one angle it looks like an elephant trumpeting. I hope someday to be able to walk over to Isla Vista and get some new pix, but mostly just to enjoy its presence for a little bit. (I'm doing stairs a few days a week, working up to doing them daily. So who knows? I may be able to take longer walks again in the future.)

Later in the afternoon: Well, as usual, I couldn't leave well enough alone. And now that I have the excuse of wanting to learn my way around Photohop Elements, especially to find how to invert a picture's colors, I could not resisit. Here's a version of the above that I finally figured out how to color invert in Photoshop Elements, and then re-colored in MS Picture Manager. It's more interesting I think than "Abstraction," and is called Spirit in the Sky:

A New Angle is about a year and a half old, just slightly revised today (to intensify the colors a wee bit). This is a view I frequently catch on my way back to my rooms. Further to the right, huge palm shadows were cast on that wall. (I posted a picture of that larger view here some time ago, called "Ostrich Walk".) So need it be said that I check this scene out every time I walk by.

All Aflutter was taken three years ago, and re-worked in January of this year. I actually have at least two other versions, as well. The original is one of those with shadows and shapes that keep tugging at me. If I weren't more than usually rushed right now I know I'd be going for yet another version. For instance, I have an itch right now to change it's orientation (flip the original upside down or maybe just a quarter turn) and see what gets suggested then.

Fair warning: I remembered yesterday that now that my new computer is up, I have a drawing program I can load and try out. That is, actually drawing on a special pad with a stylus. Ya-HOO! What will that do to my photos? And to my time! I may be found nothing but a stack of bones, piled in my secretary's chair in front of my computer, years from now .... Of course, I'm assuming I can do drawing on an already existing image. But even if not, it'll be great fun, methinks.

Motley Muster is a two year old photo, slightly revised this morning. It was taken in my most favorite area of our garden grounds. Right now these calla -- oops! canna lily leaves have just about come back after their yearly buzz cut but haven't quite reached this sort of marvelous manic display. But they're getting there!

Berserker Shield (1), above, is going on four years old, but just revised this morning. Both photos today were worked on using a combination of one new and one limited capacity program I have available right now on my new computer. Once I get into Photoshop Elements I have hopes of more choices again. However, its ways are rather different from anything I've worked with before. So I want to give my poor old brain a chance to adjust to everything else new with this computer before tackling Photoshop Elements. In any case, I had fun getting these color effects and contrasts with this old photo. They really bring out those spines and patterns on the largest cacti.

The colors on Berserker Shield (2), below, give the shield are more active aspect, I think. As opposed to those on the version above that lead to imagining the shield propped up at rest.

Leaning toward the Light, above, is over three years old, as is the other I'm posting here today, but both were somewhat revised this morning. What a process. Although the two programs I used I had on my old computer (made the switch just two days ago) they're newer versions. And as I find too often "new" does not equal better. In fact, one program is missing a function I used a great deal, as well as having decreased selections on another favorite function considerably. And this is supposed to be an "upgrade"? Oy, I'm such a grouch. I promise it'll pass and I'll find something else to complain about. At least I was happy to rediscover these two old pix taken just outside the front gate of our retirement community in spring of 2010. By the way, the calla lily in the above photo stood over 5 feet tall and was in a group of big ones.

The Unfurling, below, is one of my many favorite sights here during spring, fern branches as they dance into the light. There's a lot about this photo my critical eye is not happy with, so this posting of it is really total self-indulgence.

Firestorm is a about a month old, just re-worked today. And its title is apropros of what I've been going through adjusting to my new computer set-up, which includes the programs with which I revise photos. I don't get it when folk say something is so much easier because it's becoming more and more automatic. Ack! Saying that to me is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. I want to do my own thinking, thank you very much! I put that coding in because that's what I want, dang it! No, I don't want to use Bing, I want my Google, dang it all double. And don't tell me that changing terminology for the same function makes it easier. All it means is one has to learn yet another "language" in order to get around the system. Oh well, what it all really comes down to for me (I blush to admit) is how I don't like change. Hey, why fix it if it ain't broke? So, inside my head is much like today's pic. Much too hot to handle and in a tizzy. As I said after the post today to my dreams & poetry blog, this will all pass and habit happily settle in again. But getting there is feeding a firestorm in my old brain.
