JUBILATION (two different crops)

"Jubilation" is the photo for today probably as much for its title as for all the bright colors. To say I'm jubilant is to put it midly. It turns out my terrible internet slow down problem was related to my ISP after all. I needed a new modem! Now I have time to deal with the rest of my poor old system's issues (more RAM and upgraded OS), so I'll have time to save for a totally new system. I really could throw a big party I'm so relieved.

As to this picture, I took it about 3-1/2 years ago at the French Festival. There were lots of colorful booths, with endless unique wares for sale and mouthwatering food. I was very new to taking photos and the friend who brought me managed to be patient as I snapped away at every turn. Very few of the photos I took worked out, mostly due to the brilliant sunlight and my total inexperience. Even this one I don't consider all that "successful" but I love the colors and light. I don't have the original anymore, or I'd revert to it and see what I could do with it now.

P.S. A couple hours after posting this: I came up with this crop of the above which I may like better as it brings out that mirror a bit more. It's also a little less static visually. But I'll have to let it "cool" for a while to be sure:

CAUGHT RED HANDED

Sorry to be so single minded, but I think this title ("Caught Red Handed") came to me due to a thought I'd had about my internet/computer woes when they first started weeks ago. I.e., that someone tried to pirate my cable connection (or to be nicer, accidentally damaged my connection in the cable line closet). The ISP guy is coming a little later today to check it all out. All support could tell me over the phone yesterday was that there was a "significant loss of signal." Well, I won't get too hopeful that it's the connection. My system is 10 years old, which has to be dealt with (upgrades, or entirely new system -- ack!) even if the worst of the slow-down is an ISP problem.

Anyway, to this photo. It's one of my very oldest. It's been cropped and re-cropped many times since. What I find interesting is that words escape my memory that I know as well as my own name. Yet I can clearly recall where each and every of thousands of years old photos were taken. This one was just outside the front gate of the retirement community I live in, on the right, barely two yards from the dining room windows there. Maybe visual memory is somehow more readily accessible to the aging mind than verbal?

"Caught Red Handed" was taken with my first camera, a loaner I sometimes still miss. I have not fooled with the colors on this picture. Though I did do some "despeckling" (a photo editing function on one of my programs) to bring out the shapes the various shades of color and shadows suggested. As well as to make it look a little like a painting.

LAST LIGHT

"Last Light," humph! Wish I had one called "Last Nerve"! My computer woes have frayed just about every nerve and brain cell I have left. I just don't have the resources to call in a professional repair person (one comes highly recommended by a friend). Especially not as there would also probably be costs for parts, or even a totally new system. I also still don't know if it's my ISP (the test a friend did yesterday of my line using his netbook was inconclusive). The ISP call I make tomorrow.

So I'm waiting and waiting my way through each page-loading aspect of this post, as I'll have to do with all the other online computer work I need to do today. Guess I should be grateful even for this slow, extremely erratic connection. Just as I was grateful for the life still shining in this rose.
