CLAIMING THE MORNING; CLIMBING THE NIGHT; & RAVELED SLEEVES

Claiming the Morning (2-22-11) above and Climbing the Night (2-22-11) below are from the same long-in-the-tooth photo.

"Claiming the Morning" teetered on degrading (getting those tiny little boxes) at a few points along the way. And I really didn't think it would accept being color inverted, producing the second version ("Climbing the Night"). I've considered using degraded photos as "sketches," if you will, for actual paintings or drawings. Because when a photo seems to be degrading I give up on whatever was pulling me forward and move in another direction, or scrap it and start from scratch. In either case the original "vision" is lost. So if I used the about to degrade photo as a jumping off point for a painting or drawing I might be able to follow the original idea down. Ah well, maybe when there are more than 24 hours in a day I'll try that. AhHAH! Maybe I could paint/draw right on a printout of an about to degrade photo (any photo, actually). However, that would take things in another direction entirely. But still worth a shot, some day.

And because I also like the older version posted here before from which the above two were drawn, here it is again, titled Raveled Sleeves (2-22-11):

DON'T FADE AWAY

Don't Fade Away (4-14-12), well, of course, is another older photo, just fussed with yesterday. Clearly heavily fussed with. The contrasts and colors are not at all my usual wont and that's probably the primary reason I like it at all. And the title? One of those that just jumped to mind when I'd settled on this version of the picture. It feels like it comes from some really old song. Although I Googled, none of the songs that have these words in it jog my memory. Maybe the brain cells that have that memory are napping.

NIGHTSCAPADE

Maybe I should stop noting here that a picture's old, and just mention when it's new. :-) Nightscapade (4-14-13) above is over two years old, just revisioned this morning. It's another of those that tugs at some old memory and/or feeling, so I don't fully trust that it really meets even my limited esthetic and technical parameters. But, what the hey, here it is anyway. It does something for me today.

LEMMINGS

Lemmings (6-15-11) above is another old photo that I recently re-worked. Not sure what I like about it, but maybe it's that visual rushing out from the center. You can see a very differently colored version of this same picture here, on my dreams & poetry blog.

DEFIANCE; & THE UNIVERSE NEXT DOOR

Defiance (10-1-11) above, is from one of those old folders of pix to which I keep returning, but I just messed with it yesterday.

The Universe Next Door (10-1-11) below, is from that same folder of pix and of the same rose center, and also re-worked yesterday.

I'm being strongly drawn to bright, even neon-like colors again. I've been resisting that urge. Yes, I have, even given the number of bright colored pix on this blog to the contrary. You wouldn't want to see what my folders are crammed with or my recycle bin. But, heck, as I said recently I'm fortunate to answer pretty much only to myself here. And as I said once before on this blog (mostly to myself, I hasten to add), what's wrong with the possibilities of the palettes computer programs offer? Therefore, these intensely colored pix today.

HARVEST SUN; & THE DAWNING

Harvest Sun (11-9-13) above, is from that brand new folder of pix mentioned here in yesterday's post. I just edited it and the below picture, The Dawning (11-9-13), today.

As usual I had great fun applying Photoshop filters and then cropping and rotating, and playing with colors. Though I fussed with the focus, trying both softer and crisper, I couldn't really improve it. I'm only half joking when I say that I hope that vague dissatisfaction I have with the focus on these is due to my advancing cataracts. Anyway, S.A.D. (Seasonal Affect Disorder) has me in its grip, as well as my usual waxing gibbous moon wonkies, so working on these pix was even more of a treat than usual.
